Beginner Scent

Quinn isn’t letting a little abdominal surgery stand in her way, so we had a 1:1 session this weekend to get us caught up to our class (we missed 2). We’re starting with shaping to get a nose press against a spice jar containing “pine”. We’re also building drive to a container filled with treats, as well as the spice jar. This is to build the association between the scent and treats. We’re only supposed to do 4 or 5 reps of each per session, so perfect recovery training at home. We will attend class this week, since there is no running and the work is all on leash. onward and upward!

We have to bring 5 coloured plastic containers to class tonight, which are near impossible to find, with holes in the lid. I finally found some left over from Christmas at a store that are red, and OH volunteered to drill a perfect hole in lids late last night...he ruined all the lids!!! I just ran out on my break and barely found some replacements (literally last on shelf, missing the wrapping and possibly one container), but now have to figure out how to do the hole myself before class, because we can't be the new kids AND not be prepared

Yep burning is good if a knitting needles and some blutac underneath doesn't work.

I'd be really interested in hearing more about where to start with this Ashley, after doing the mantraining I think scents are probably Monty's 'thing', so I need to work out how to apply this to some basics in the house.

Natalie, I would be happy to send you my weekly homework, as we get it emailed to us. It's starting off quite easy to do on my own and instructor told me starting in the house where the smells are familiar and there is no wind, etc is best. The main thing would be for you to find the scents that are OK for dogs...we started with herbal 'pine' and next on the list is 'wintergreen'.
