Furminator

I've got one (Maisy has I mean) but I don't seem to get much out with it. I suppose I should use it more than once a month?
It depends on the dog. The girls hardly moult at all, so it only does anything when they're having their seasonal sheds. Shadow is a 24/7 moulter, so I could pick it up any time and get handfuls out of him. I only groom them during their seasonal moults as it doesn't do their coats any good if I do it regularly. I find they end up with dry skin and lose their gloss.

I use a human ‘tangle teaser’ and it really does the trick. Spencer hardly sheds at all (strange as his dad is a golden retriever) but Tatze does and she benefits from a once a day grooming - and I do Spencer too to get him used to it, they are groomed every morning at Big School.

They are both nice and glossy.

So funny, because I have one of these for myself (a life saver when my hair was long) and I tried it out on the dogs after you mentioned it one time before - it did nothing at all! Granted, I didn't try it when they were in full shed, but Shadow always has hair and even with him, it did nothing. The gaps seemed to be too big, and because it doesn't have anything for the hair to grip to (which is sort of the point of it), it seemed that they'd have to be shedding loads for it to do anything :|

I could imagine it being brilliant with a long or curly-coated breed, but it wasn't a good fit for my dogs, at least.

I find all the fur really sticks to it - no flying fur at all, I can groom them indoors no problem. :)

This is from a 30 second groom of Tatze just now - it seems to get all the loose undercoat without affecting the topcoat. I empty the brush about five times per groom, which takes about five minutes for Tatze.

I use a rubber mitt that has rubber stud-like “bristles”. I use it like a curry comb, rubbing in circles. Removes lots of hair and Snowie loves it. He hated the furminator—I think the metal teeth might’ve hurt his skin even tho I was very careful to use it very lightly.

That looks brilliant! It's weird that it does nothing for my lot. I wouldn't expect it to for Luna or Willow right now, as even the Furminator (knock-off) wouldn't get anything out of them, but I can pull hair out of Shadow, and it does nothing!

I have two Furminator-type rakes; the first is amazing, only takes out undercoat, doesn't damage the top coat. And gets SO much out! The first year we were in Spain, I left it here when we went back to Andorra mid-shed, and so I bought another similar thing. I hate it; it cuts the top coat. Ugh! I've never used a genuine one on them; poor pups having to deal with second best :D

Well I bought a Tangle Teaser - we love it. Coco is a shedder and it's great on him. Meg(an) Sparkle isn't a shedder but she quite likes a quick brush with it. The best thing is brushing their tails! Coco has quite a bushy tail on the underneath side, & Meg's is a little bushy too. Neither of them like having their tails done with any other brush or comb but the Tangle Teaser is fine and leaves their tails nicely groomed (this has been indispensable since they put the new flooring down at the horse barn where we train - it clings like mad to tails and pantaloons). I wish I'd had one when we had Belle - the Furminator was great on her, but not her really bushy tail...oh no...don't mess with that! I be t the Tangle Teaser would have left that looking stunning.

Coco still likes a massage-groom with the Zoom Groom too.
