Mud - HOW do you manage?!

My dream really is to immigrate to somewhere there's less rain and mud.
And I dream of wet walks! If there’s so much as a drizzle, I’m ecstatic. We have a “bog” on one of our walks. A muddy pool where some water collects. Snowie looks like a Topdeck chocolate after he’s been in there. My backseat is filthy—I don’t care. When we get home he always has a dip in the pond and comes out as good as new.

We need rain quite desperately too, and we also have a bog at the local dog park. We try to keep Maxx out of it because he got thrush in his paws from, we think, this bog. He has been good lately and not run in....until today. His recall is so bad we had no chance of stopping him. Sigh. But I said to hubby that Labradors love mud and love to wallow so we shouldn't be cranky at him. OMG he stunk like you cant believe and we had to bath him with special shampoo to stop any fungal infections again.

I posted a pic on the 'my dogs and I went walking' thread (it's on my phone and I'm on my laptop now). He looks like a topdeck for sure!

Every winter I'm so grateful that I have only one barely muddy dog to hose/dry off - I could not cope with more! I have a hose by the back door that has several settings on it, so I use the strong settings to blast off the paws, legs, and tum, then she gets a quick, intense towel dry on the back (sheltered) doorstep. None of my walks involve slurry. Dogspeed to those of you who have to deal with that.

We get them all in the reservoir or stream at the end of the walk, then leads go straight on. If we can’t do that it’s the hosepipe outside, none of them like it - but they put up with it. If they are just a bit muddy we use the aquasorb towels when we get home, luckily we have a porch big enough for three of them.

Zaba has his snazzy dressing gown, which keeps the mud off the walls - without it he somehow puts mud lines everywhere!

:)

Vanilla love the mud. I keep wet wipes in the car and a towel. Then a hose down when get home or a brush depending on smell.
Honey yes well just a tiny bit so far...as we are only just starting to get some decent rain.

Mud = very happy dogs in this household and a dirty car and floors downstairs...

I am grateful mine don't do mud like a Labrador. Just feet & tums, most of which rubs off in the back of the car on the way home. They do make muddy footprints on our beige carpet, but they hoover up once dry. I leave any wall/door splashes until I can be bothered to wipe them down (slut, I know!)

Reuben is a mud magnet , he heads for all the swampy areas he can get to , I can hear him, gloop glooping about ! Luckily most of our walks incorporate water of some sort so he gets a swim to finish . He travels in the very back of the car behind the dog guard, he has a duvet with a wonderful mat thing on top which is super absorbent , only £6.99 from B&M , by the time we get home he is almost dry x

Pictures are coming...

To be honest, Ginny and the twins are OK, even at their worst. I can shower them and be on my way, even after the slurry pits. But Squidge has such a thick coat and hippo tendencies that the mud is a good centimetre thick when it gets in there. If we can let her dry off without cleaning her, it cakes dry and will take a good hour to brush out the next day. She just loves wallowing in thick mud. Her commitment to it is pretty impressive 😂

Do you think there's any link to the fact that you've often said she runs hot, has thick fur, and mud would be very cooling?
