@M.F. I am so sorry Snowie has had a tough few days - I hope his visit to the beach cheered you and him up. These are wise words @Stacia

It's been a very up and down few days!! Friday and Saturday were very good, with even a little walk to the woods. But on Sunday morning Pops seemed weak and wobbly, and yet needed to go out every twenty minutes and kept trying to pee. We called our vet, who met us at the surgery (luckily just a...

She sounds lovely. Maybe time for some updated photos??

    One training thing

I have three invaluable cues. First is a really solid 'stop' to the whistle. I especially find this one useful in the woods at the weekends, when there are lots of mountain bikes whizzing around. Recalling can be dangerous if a bike is coming up behind you, whereas 'stop' means the dog sits down...

Poppy is doing a little better at present. We realized that her pain medication was making her sick, so we have stopped giving her that, and since then she has been eating better and able to keep food down. She is alert and interested in her surroundings, and very very happy that OH is back...

Oh Joy, I do so understand what you are going through. It is very sad, and difficult. Those four points from M.F.'s post are really helping us at present, and like you we don't think Poppy's time is yet come. Sending you my thoughts and wishing you strength.

    Hello again

So sorry to hear about lovely Monty. :( Bear is looking magnificent!

    Dummy

First you need to teach a good 'hold', whereby Odin will walk along next to you holding the dummy, and then you teach him to give it to you only when you give him a certain cue (I use 'give'). Practice him walking alongside you while he is holding the dummy, and also him sitting in front of you...

    Tess in Somerset

Good girl Tess! and well done you. I know it's not easy at competitions - it's always very different to training!

    Poppy

Poppy is getting weaker, but she doesn't seem to be in any pain, and she still wags her tail when I tell her what a good, good dog she is. She went down the garden this morning with me and did a pee, but she didn't want anything to eat, though she had a small drink of water. Friends and...

Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Good morning Karen, I also have not used clicker training but I echo Kate's recommendation of keeping training sessions very short (10 minutes sounds ideal). I think that as you extend the gaps between clicks and as she becomes more aware of what is going on around her during her walks that the...

    Poppy

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. Today has been a pretty good day really. Poppy ate some chicken and a bit of canned meat as well as about half a cup of kibble, so not bad at all, and she drank quite well. She was clearly feeling much better this afternoon and even wanted to go for a...

Ah Poppy... After several months of generally pretty good health for a 13-year-old dog, Pops has been losing her appetite. Today and yesterday she has barely eaten or drunk a thing, and has clearly been feeling unwell. After various tests we got the bad news today that she has some sort of...
