    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Perhaps I’m not using the terminology correctly? I mean by hormone tablets. In humans, the drug is Finasteride. I don’t know if it’s the same drug for dogs, but it’s the same action. The vet said it still allows testosterone production and does not affect weight.

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

The vet called and said the laboratory results indicate no cancer, so that is a relief. They’re still culturing the bacteria to be able to identify the exact bacteria to target. The vet reckons that if Snowie is already so improved, that the current antibiotics might be the right one anyway...

Thank you @kateincornwall it’s very reassuring and comforting hearing about your and Nellie’s relationship. Yesterday I was on the floor with Snowie and said to him “give kisses”, and he lent forward and licked me and wagged his tail. I was so excited, he could hear! But my husband said he’s...

    Stinky Ears

So sorry. Based on my experience, I’d say please get on top of it asap. I feel my neglect has caused Snowie to lose his hearing. Best of luck xxx

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

I am really happy that he’s feeling so much better. We did a great walk this morning on the mountain. Tons of dogs, lots that he knows. He was full of energy and trotting along. And with his booties, his paws were fine, no limping. But I still feel really depressed by his lack of hearing...

    Beds.

Does she like to curl up or stretch out? Snowie sleeps stretched out, so we opted for a rectangular bed. We’ve been through many over the years, and the only one he’s actually slept on is the last one we bought, which is a memory foam mattress. So we bought another, one upstairs, one downstairs...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Thank you, yes he’s a million times better! Appetite back to normal, thank goodness. But he did sleep in with us. We all must’ve been exhausted. Lights out last night at 10.30pm. Woke up around 7.30am and stayed in bed till 8.30am. And then he went back to sleep after breakfast. But was keen...

    Tick meds and diarrhea

The advice given by my vet about diarrhea was to wait 24 hours. Sometimes just a 24-hour bug. If diarrhea continues after 24 hours, then get to the vet. I totally understand your worry about whether you’re running too soon to the vet, or whether you’re waiting too long. I also feel that way...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

I’m ecstatic to report that Snowie woke up this afternoon ravenous. Mid morning we did a short walk to the park around the corner where he sniffed and marked and made a small poo. Then he wanted to come home. He licked a few bits more of his breakfast and then went to sleep. Now, he woke up...

    Tick meds and diarrhea

So sorry Hugo has a squirty bum. I’d be trying to get liquids into him. Very sloshy food. I’d tend to rather feed pumpkin than rice. Maybe mixed with chicken to encourage him to lick up all the liquid. I’m nervous of any of those tick and flea chews. They stay in the system a long time.

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Thank you for all support. ❤️ The vet on duty said he could have a whole paracetamol every 8 hours if necessary. She also said that if the first paracetamol didn’t take effect within an hour, she’d give us tramadol. Yesterday they closed at 6pm and we’d never get there in time due to afternoon...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Shame, he must be in terrible pain. He took himself off to wade in the pool, drank some water while in the pool. Then cried when I was drying him when I rubbed over his groin. I hardly touched him. 😞 Then he came inside and couldn’t get comfortable. Lay down, immediately up, walked to another...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

We’re back from the vet. Such a nice vet! Spoke us through everything in detail. Normal blood tests for his age. Vet was amazed they were this good in such an old dog. We’ve tried hard over the years to keep him healthy! Fresh and varied unprocessed food. Minimal chemicals. Regular exercise...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

We bought Snowie roast chicken yesterday. The vet said to feed small frequent meals yesterday. Well, he went straight to sleep when we got home, but did wake up in the evening when I started to prep the chicken into small (100gm) portions. He normally gets 400gm raw meat and raw meaty bones for...

And I love hearing it. Thank you for sharing again. It is the reality, even though I don’t want to accept it.

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Thank you @MellowYellow for sharing your experience of your dogs. It’s very comforting. I’m keen to try the meds first just in case removing the testosterone has a detrimental effect. Then we can stop them. The vet said the only factor for him was cost. Castration: R2,500 once off. Pills: R1,000...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Thank you again for your concern. We were fitted in at 10am. Vet very busy today. But he was thorough. He doesn’t know what caused Snowie to be so uncomfortable. He scanned him and there were no intestinal blockages. And the bladder stone is unchanged. But he has a massive prostate, which has...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

I spoke too soon. I’ve been up the entire night with him. He was totally fine last night, happy and engaged up till bed time. Then at 10pm he desperately wanted to go out. My husband took him. I fell asleep but woke up when they came back and Snowie jumped onto the bed. He was cheerful then, but...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

I’m so pleased to say that when I got back from work this afternoon, Snowie was transformed! Excited to see me, grabbed his hedgehog soft toy and paraded around. Me, I was SO happy!! And then he insisted on his afternoon walk. And what a long walk he took me on, even up onto the mountain path...

    Deaf? Eye ulcer.

Thank you all for your kind and caring comments. It means a lot. When I wrote this post, I’d been awake since 3am unable to sleep with anxiety and sadness for Snowie. I eventually got up and worked at my laptop to take my mind off of it. And to make up for all the work I missed yesterday while...
