Beds.

Didn't we have a Bed Thread somewhere once upon a time? I've looked but can't find it.
Anyway, I think it's time for Joy to have a new downstairs bed. She's spending longer and longer digging around in it before she lies down, presumably trying to make it more comfortable and despite washing it doesn't seem to get clean anymore. I was reading that a supportive bed can help dogs with Arthritis and was wondering what beds our other forum dogs have, and if anyone has any recommendations?

Lilly has a choice.
A firmer orthopaedic style flat bed or a "donut" bed (the latter having a firmer replacement bottom cushion replacing lots of layers.)
She uses both.
She also looks like she struggles to get comfy doing her circling and scraping. Does this on both beds but more in the donut. Often destroys it then looks at us and it and us, until we "fix it".

20240317_132154.jpgboth beds were bought locally rather than online. The donut was Aldi, but new cushion was online.

Cass has a bed from Baavet for her nightime bed, I don't know that it is particularly recommended for orthopaedic care but it is firm and keeps it's shape it seems. (It's stuffed with wool) I've never seen her go to any great lengths to rearrange it so presume it's comfortable enough without her doing so.
It's not the most practical regarding washing, the covers are a snug fit, but I am thinking of getting an over cover to go on to make it easier.

Does she like to curl up or stretch out? Snowie sleeps stretched out, so we opted for a rectangular bed. We’ve been through many over the years, and the only one he’s actually slept on is the last one we bought, which is a memory foam mattress. So we bought another, one upstairs, one downstairs.

He still digs. And unfortunately he has ripped them up (stuck now with duct tape!). But exposed we saw that it’s not a single piece of foam but rather three layers of different foam. Not sure which layer is the memory foam! It’s very comfortable—I often go to lie with him!

The only thing missing are big bolsters (it has a very low ridge on 3 sides). He likes support. The one upstairs is pushed against a sofa so he has support on one side.

We cover them with blankets, which we wash frequently. Unfortunately the cover is not machine washable!!! Bad design for a dog bed!

Unfortunately the brand name will mean nothing to you in the UK: Dog-o-Pedic.

I quickly looked on their site and they explain the mattress layers: The Throne memory foam mattress is a Triple-layer construction to keep your doggie as comfortable as can be. We use HD Foam, Simulated Latex and Memory Foam for this Mattress.

Joy usually starts off curled up and more often than not ends up like this!20240310_231935.jpg I bought her a Memory foam bed a few years ago and she refused to sleep on it until I put an old duvet on top of it, covered with a blanket.

We’ve been through a lot of bed shenanigans, we have three popular ones now: Stilton has a doughnut bed which he loves, Kipper has two supportive memory foam beds from George Barclay and Chameau, both on offer in our local farming supplies shop (one in my office, one in the corridor). If we had room we’d get one with bolsters.

We have rectangule memory foam JOYELF. I chose it as it was also a recommendation from YOUMOVE. I think you will appreciate the name!
Amazon sell it and I got XL size.
I do/did appreciate the name, but sadly it was the JOYELF memory foam bed that I had to cover with an old duvet and blanket before she would sleep on it! She seems to dislike memory foam and want something softer. Really I wish I could take her to try out different beds, as we would for ourselves, but I don't think that would be possible!

Here’s Tuppence (reluctantly) modelling the type of beds I have. It has a memory foam mattress and raised sides. The covers are washable. I bought them from Amazon some while ago when there was a previous thread I think - and I was feeling guilty about their pieces of vetbed in their crates! She really does find it comfortable (and Wispa did too) and often chooses to sleep there, but was a bit miffed because I’d moved her from the chair to take the photo! She tends to curl up, though, or use the edge as a pillow, and never sleeps upside down like GGJ!

Chewie has one of these, which are from Australia but now available in the UK: Barney Bed

I've lain on it and can confirm it is very comfy and has withstood five years of his very vigorous bedtime digging with no damage (which is more than I can say for our leather sofa...). He sleeps on it at least part of the night and during the day.

Im just keeping quiet. No dog beds in this house. We have flat tuffies traveling mats and a inner oval from old bed but no real beds. They lie aon the rugs sofa and sometimes a pouffe but beds became redundant a while ago. I treat them so badly and am a cold hard women.Screenshot_2024-03-18-14-11-10-02_965bbf4d18d205f782c6b8409c5773a4.jpg
