Covid: Dogs bought in lockdown being abandoned

They can't possibly be using the dogs other than for flushing or running down whatever they are hunting. Speaking from my limited experience, there is a strong bond between human and dog out in the field that builds over years to the extent that the pair do really form a coordinated team (most...

Nina for the morning - Oh no!

Yes thanks it was all fine in the end. They ended up alternating between settling down for a snooze and arguing over a chew (one dog at one end and one dog at the other running around shoulder to shoulder). :cwl: 10:41 is way past my bedtime.

Nina for the morning - Oh no!

Missed Lady on the way back. About a dozen pheasants over by the railway well off piste. I could have done with her to drive them back in the right direction.

Nina for the morning - Oh no!

You are SO correct! Actually I've won for the time being. Poppy lying next to me and Nina looking like she'll settle soon. I'm going to risk moving to make a cup of coffee. I may be gone some time!

Nina for the morning - Oh no!

I just took them for a long walk and they were (almost) as good as gold. They are kicking off again now. Just another half hour or so to go I hope.

Nina for the morning - Oh no!

We've got my son's dog, Nina for the morning while they get their downstairs floor finished off and they needed to not have Nina helping. We've had her for roughly 30 minutes. Two and a half hours to go! :hungover:

    Living with Poppy 18/10/21

Actually that is a really interesting point. One of the things we agonised about before Poppy came on the scene was were we too old for a new dog. Things can easily go pear shaped with health with little warning. I've had two replacement hips and one knee replacement. The remaining knee is...

    Living with Poppy 18/10/21

I'm just looking on it all as part of life's rich pattern. We had similar, although slightly different experiences with Lady when she was a pup. They all seem to just resolve themselves as the dogs mature. I think the important thing is keeping at it and working on getting the right...

    Living with Poppy 18/10/21

I should have entitled this "A Nightmare on Elm Street". Pops overall is doing well, I think. By way of an example, our next door neighbour is moving and they invited the immediate neighbours to drinks and snacks in their front garden yesterday afternoon. I'd just recieved a new...

    Slightly Concerned about Poppy

She's a bit better bark and growl-wise. I think she must have been barking a lot and as you say - a sore throat. I haven't called the kennels to enquire. Otherwise she's as fit as a fiddle. She loves the beach (obviously) and yesterday we met up with a group - all complete strangers to each...

Congratulations. Too far for us but otherwise ...... I think Pops is still a bit too wild as well. :pull:

    Slightly Concerned about Poppy

Thanks, everyone. Very helpful. Yes I'm probably over reacting. I'll see how things are tomorrow. Poppy has had a bit of an unstable early life largely as a result of the Covid pandemic. She needs time. We took her to the beach today. She'd never seen the sea before. Lovely! Fast asleep now.

    Slightly Concerned about Poppy

We left her at a new (to us) kennel for a couple of nights on our way to Cornwall. We had a track day to run en route so she needed to be kenneled. The reviews looked good but of course we couldn't visit in advance. We picked her up yesterday and she was like a mad thing on the lead. I...

    Travelling with Poppy Dog

Pops loves swimming so we're really looking forward to letting her have some beach time. Yes our old girl, Lady was actually a bit older when we first took her on holiday with us. It was fine but we had to keep a very sharp eye out for sheep on the moors. Later I got her steady with sheep and...
