So Squidge got to meet Dexter this morning. They had had a little conversation through the fence a couple of times, but this morning was the first time they were let loose. Squidge thought it was her birthday and someone had given her a puppy!

She took herself to bed - it was quite enough excitement for one day, thankyouverymuch! (This was her coming back IN to the compound, having had a sniff and a poo outside)

If you move your left hand down the leash until it's just above the collar, she can't do this. There's an old mantra from traditional training, but which works here, which is "control the head, control the dog". It also makes it a whole lot less "draggy", and far easier on the dog. Just be sure...

I spent two and a half hours removing those bloody green things from a certain spanner last night. She was perfectly content, asleep on her back, tongue poking out. Then I smelled something, looked down, and she had “nuggeted” on me. It was smeared up my arm and over my top. :facepalm...

They hold a lot of scent - human, dog - but also do smell quite strongly themselves. They're very rubbery smelling. Have you never sniffed one? Weirdo ;)

In the shelter, he would be in a small kennel with several other dogs/puppies, cleaned out twice a day, but the kennels are always covered in runny poo and wee because the dogs all have diarrhoea. He’d be let out into a drab compound once or twice in the day, and no significant time being...
