Beautiful Bella

The smugness I was feeling about her having an easy coat (compared to my sister's show cocker) is out the window. Yeah, she gets the odd burr that needs removing, but that's no bother. But then there's this particular type of grass which is a NIGHTMARE. It looks like this, not sure if it is...

Apparently it's a type of foxtail, but it's not what I would typically call a foxtail - those ones with the sharp point that make their way inside in a terrifying manner. No, this just gets stuck in the fur. When you try to pull it out, it breaks into a million tiny pieces. It gets matted in a nanosecond and takes aaaaaages to remove. I've found the best way is to dampen the area, then massage in conditioner, tease the worst of it out, separating each individual strand of hair, and then use a comb to coax the last little bits out. Poor Bella fell asleep standing up while I was doing it, it took so long to remove three of these blasted things this morning. She has a vet check this morning, so I couldn't have her turning up looking neglected! Now, she just looks a little bedraggled instead. But she smells delightful :D

I look at this beautiful photo of this gorgeous doggie and I can’t bear thinking of what occurred to end up as that awful “accident”.

1. I think my business partner would KILL me!
2. I have some legalities to work through first
3. We're a single-income family right now, with a LOT of mouths to feed, so I'm kinda thinking it's not the ideal time ;)

But, yeah, the dream is one day...!
And realistically, we all know you can do multiple jobs at once without batting an eye (or at least looking that way to the outside observer) so you'll continue to make the most of your photography talent until all your other stars align. 😊

I spent two and a half hours removing those bloody green things from a certain spanner last night. She was perfectly content, asleep on her back, tongue poking out.

Then I smelled something, looked down, and she had “nuggeted” on me. It was smeared up my arm and over my top.

Before bed, she didn’t poo and something didn’t seem quite right, so I popped a nappy on her overnight. This morning, I was glad I had - big runny poo inside. I removed it and took her into the bathroom for a wash. She saw the flannel, ran off, and shook. Repeatedly. In the bathroom, in the hallway, in the living room, in the kitchen. Bits of runny poo spraying in every direction.

I went through a LOT of Clinelle wipes.

It’s a good job she’s so cute!

A little update on our little Nugget: firstly, she is now officially OUR little Nugget!! The day that Dexter left, we also signed papers to adopt her.

We're muddling along with her bottom issues. There's something else cropped up where, because she doesn't have control over her muscles back there, her bum hole doesn't always close properly after having a poo. This means it easily gets sore and infected as the sensitive skin is exposed to the elements, and this leads to bleeding. We have some steroid cream to try to help this, and it doesn't seem to bother her, but it's not nice to see her looking sore back there. Perversely, this is more of a problem now she has firm poo, because when she had diarrhoea, it never opened up. So, it's a case of fixing one thing, and something else crops up.

Never mind, she's a fun little munchkin, good as gold other than tending to be rather - um - loud when she's excited. So we're working on trying to help her calm herself down so she doesn't feel the need to scream :wasntme:

Here are a couple of recent pictures I took at a trip to a local bombed-out village from the civil war.
