Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Hi all, We are practicing loose lead walking using click and treat for looking at me as she walks by my side and using a noise (pip pip pip) to get her to turn back to me when she pulls (I then walk backwards for a few steps and c&t for following me; then reset her position and walk forwards)...

    Challenging night

Cassie is being inducted into the world of “I’m sorry I haven‘t a clue”. Since we are more or less confined to the kitchen diner, OH bought a set of CDs of all the episodes - we are currently listening to the inimitable Humphrey Lyttelton leading Tim Brooke Taylor, Graeme Garden, Barry Cryer and...

    Teething diagram

I was trying to work out which puppy teeth get replaced first and found the diagram in this link to be really useful https://www.aphis.usda.gov/sites/default/files/ac-aid-aging-puppies-by-teeth.pdf

    Challenging night

That’s good to know. Like you I am hoping that it might firm up her poos and reduce the frequency. Also might stop her biting her flank/tail.

    Challenging night

I just spoke with them - they are very helpful. They recommended Duck and veg or Utility mix (white fish). They said that most of their foods are ok for puppies; the reason they don’t have a specific puppy food is that they would have to charge VAT (assume pups are not considered working). I...

    Challenging night

Yes, I agree. Holly (previous dog) was on Millie’s Wolfheart and got on well with it. I didn’t originally switch her onto it before as they don’t have a specific puppy formula but will call and ask for their recommendation later. Good to know that it worked for Flicka.

    Challenging night

She slept ok in the crate/pen! When we first put her in, she burbled a bit but didn’t seem agitated and then she lay down. She woke at 5 for a wee and poo but OH volunteered for that shift so I got an extra bit of sleep.

    Challenging night

Thank you @MellowYellow. That is good to know. How did toilet training go on once Merlin was out of the crate? Cassie is pretty good now but our kitchen/diner is quite big and I suspect toilet training may take a hit if she can’t rattle the pen door to signal that I need to let her out. The pen...

It is a consolation to know that we are not alone - sending sympathy to you.

    Challenging night

Frozen kongs seem to wind her up rather than calm her down oddly. She chucks them around to empty them quicker!

    Challenging night

The crate is covered except for the front (door open). It could be a knock on effect from the vet visit - I think cortisol levels take a few days to come down (although she seemed ok at the time). Music is a good idea - it has been windy and the kitchen has large patio windows which creak a bit...

    Hello from Karen and Cassie

Thank you all for your lovely welcome. We are enrolled on puppy classes which lead to gundog classes x we will only do gundog stuff for fun though, she is very bright so I think she will be good at it!

    Challenging night

Hello all, I was hoping that my first post would be about loose lead walking or something training related but in the event, it is about refusing to stay in her pen last night. We have a pen and crate set up in the kitchen/diner. The night time strategy is generally that she gets some kibble...

    Hello from Karen and Cassie

Hello all, I have been following your lovely forum for some years now. First with our black working line lab (Holly) who we sadly lost last year, and now with our new puppy - Cassie - a fox red working lab who is 15 weeks. I never got around to joining with Holly although your posts were so...
