    Horrible scare this morning

I was at Golitha with the dogs quite early , very few people around . Nelly was with me as usual and Reuben a little way ahead, I could see him . Then I did the unforgivable , I took my eye off him and suddenly he wasnt there , not a sign of him anywhere . The river is very low right now, so I...

Is your dog a licker ?

Reuben is very keen on licking , I cant stroke him without he has to lick me ! When excited, he goes into lick overdrive and also adores cuddles and kisses . By contrast Sam was not a licker , neither did he like kisses but this lad is overjoyed when he gets some serious loving :*

    Remembering Millie

Millie was a stray , we adopted her from the shelter at Newquay when the dog warden handed her over . We took Sam to meet her , it was love at first sight and so a few days later, she arrived . Millie was a complex little dog with health issues , we knew about them when we decided to love her...

    Eight months old today

Reuben is growing up fast and making a smashing young lad . Hard to believe that its six months since he came to live with us , and that he is eight months old today ! At times he is wise beyond his age , at others he is a complete loon , just how it should be . Whilst very calm in the house ...

    One of those moments x

When Sam as a youngster , I used to take him to a field in our village which the farmer allowed us to use and there he met and played with many others . One in particular was his very best friend , a chocolate Lab called Yorkie who was then around three years old , he was Sams hero, they would...

    Nelly , pollen !

Been to the Vets this morning as she has been making this alarming noise , like she is trying to cough something up , and sneezing a lot too . Turns out that the coughing noise is called reverse sneezing and not a cough , general consensus is that she has a pollen allergy , poor lamb ! Our...

What a good lad, guard dog Reubs !

Our bungalow is tucked away in a corner with a fair sized garden , we have a side gate which is kept locked from the inside . Last night , there was the sound of someone trying the gate , but just before we heard it , Reuben growled , hair standing up and then he barked as the gate was tried ...

    My monster

I found a tick on Reuben last night , removed it with the little gadget, blasted things . We called in at the Vets after our walk to get him some treatment for which he had to be weighed , 31 kilos for heavens sake and not yet eight months old , I think he will give dear Sam a run for his money...

    Dog thefts

On Saturday , two Labradors were stolen , not far from Golitha Falls, just up the valley from me . Both adult dogs and had been allowed to roam as the owners garden bordered a forest trail which, in his words, they used as an extension to their garden . No use being critical of this , the poor...

    This afternoon

After gardencentregate , we went to the woods , where we met two of my dog walking friends and their assorted dogs . Reuben was a star , no jumping up , no manic behaviour , just milling around with the group . I felt proud of him , this is just as important as any garden centre socialisation ...

The Garden Centre this morning !

Its a lovely place , selling veg plants plus the usual array of flowers trees and shrubs along with a huge gift and book section . Dogs are allowed and so I decided that we would go to get our tomato plants , take the dogs and have a wander around . I had visions of posting a photo or two ...

    That word !

I have a habit of saying Right , when I am about to get up and do something , usually connected to the dogs , take them out, let then out, feed them but sometimes it means Right I will fetch the washing in, or something else banal . However , the Reubs has decided that Right is the cue that...

Going into a corner to rock x

Where to start ? Yesterday I had a really productive day in the garden , but " someone " left a bucket out with last weeks grass clippings in it , and upon looking up from weeding , I saw that Reuben was helping himself, again . He eats grass , fresh rooted grass which doesn't seem to have...

Learn something new every day !

I honestly didn't know the reason for the slits at the side of a dogs nose ! Apparently , they are used to exhale whereas the nostril inhales and the inhaled scent doesn't become contaminated by the exhaled air, so that's todays bit of useless information ! x

I wondered how long it would be

Until he jumped the little garden fence ! Before his arrival , we constructed a smallish fence to split the garden , leaving Reuben the part that I can see from my kitchen window , a safe place . We didn't make it very high but high enough , we thought, I am actually amazed that its taken him...
