A nice and unexpected compliment

On our walk yesterday a girl came up to us with her 10 month old dog Rupert. I think he was a lab/pointer cross because he looked just like the gorgeous Pig @Lara_Pigletina.

She was out of breath and said her dog was so badly behaved outside (yep he was pulling her practically over) and then she asked 'how do you get Maxx to walk so nicely?'. You could have blown us both down with a feather! Our dog? The worst behaved dog in the world? And then it dawned..... actually he wasn't! I showed her how we trained him with treats in the other hand and then we talked about recall. Her dog has none, just like Maxx. We told her we were doing Total Recall with the whistle and we hope that soon we can get him to come back that way as we ruined any chance at verbal recall when he was a puppy through our own ignorance.

She thanked us and then Rupert dragged her off into the park and of course Maxx decided at that moment that he'd had enough of walking nicely and started to leap and lunge after them...

Well done, it's great when you realise that actually the naughty things they used to do are not so bad anymore, or they don't do that anymore, or you see someone with a dog much worse than yours and feel quite proud that things are working out.
Maxx is a good boy.

Thanks everyone, your encouragement and wisdom makes it all so much easier

One day soon all of your training and patience will pay off and you will want your terror back, I know I wish that sometimes 😂
Maybe the cuteness when he steals something and stands there with it in his mouth bowing and grinning begging you to chase him. But not the constant nicking and chewing stuff he really shouldn't have....like hubby's almost brand-new, expensive sheepskin slippers that he accidentally left within reach on Saturday night. RIP. There were muttered f-words on Sunday morning from OH to the culprit so Maxx and I fled to the backyard to play fetch....
