A poo question (sorry!)

I'm sorry you are feeling the way you are and that those supposedly close to you are being less than helpful. It's rotten.
Is there anyway you could access a really good counsellor ( as well as MLF obviously!!)
I was able to see one such person through my workplace years back when life was difficult for me. Her positive influence is with me still.
Do you have Health visitors or similar in Australia? I know not everyone has good experiences with them but again I was very lucky with mine and she was very helpful.

I second - or third - the towel idea with Chewies kings. Could he be taught to go to his bed or on a towel when you are eating?

I did see a good psychologist when I was in the depths of postnatal depression. I don't know. Will mull it over. I always feel like my brain returns to old patterns so easily. And I don't want medication again.

Venting here today has been so helpful.

Sympathies from me, been through this poo journey with Meg too. At first I thought it was just beef (which is in so many commercial treats & foods, just described as "meat derivatives" and we rumbled on OK for a bit, I was using chicken for training. She was hard to balance. One day she stole the chicken carcass and from then on, it seemed any chicken set her off. I let them lick the cutting board (gross, I know), now she can't do that. All chicken AND beef now cut out, she has turkey for training now. I've never done a complete elimination diet thing but I am very careful what I give her but I can see it would be really difficult with a toddler. I have nothing but admiration for you managing them together, you are doing a fantastic job.

How awful for you feeling so unsupported during what is already a very difficult time. The forum gang is here on hand. I'm sure you've thought of it but could Chewie's poo problems be treat related? What kind of treats/chews do you feed him as they sometimes have all kinds of things in them? I haven't had to deal with any poo issues apart from Charlie most definitely cannot have anything with lamb in it, everything else is fare game. xx

We stopped all treats except dried fish skins a while back and the problems have continued. I also double checked that his walker isn't giving him anything and she isn't.

It's a real guessing game. The other thought is, could it be giardia?

When Snowie had HGE (he’d make bloody poos, then be fine, then bloody poos, then fine, and on and on), it went on for 3 months!! We thought he’d never be okay. Chewie’s gut might just need time to heal.

But good idea to rule out giardia.

@MrChew Maybe stop the fish skins? Have you discussed giardia with your vet? xx
Yes, all treats have now been stopped and it's the single protein food only. It looks pretty appetising so I think he will be fine.

We sent off a poo sample and it came back clear, though I know giardia can be hard to detect. I think we will trial the diet and if he hasn't settled in a few weeks we will go to the vet with another poo sample.

The other thought is, could it be giardia?
Possibly, though I think you would see him more poorly, or at least lacking in energy. However, it does come in waves, and maybe his constitution is strong enough to be fighting the worst of it off. When Monty finally got diagnosed with it, (at the six month mark, he was on/off poorly from nine weeks) the instructions were:
- Disinfect everything - so we spent a day blitzing and cleaning the house - all the rigs, soft furnishings, all his toys. I scrubbed out his crate on the lawn and disinfected the patio with Jeyes fluid. Very, very thorough. Then he had a bath - Malaseb I think.
Ten days later - repeat the whole process, including the bath. And in between, he had a course of antibiotics.

So far so good on the Prime100 wild boar. Grade A poos and less disgusting gas. Will continue for a few more weeks and then trial other proteins. We are going to stay the night at my uncle's vineyard for olive picking so will see how that goes.
