A special day tomorrow.

Tomorrow would have been Trevor's 70th birthday and we knew we were going to have to do something special. Here are our plans:
His daughters, Donna and Melanie have both booked the day off work and in the morning the three of us will walk our dogs through North Dean Woods and up across Norland Moor. Joy has met Donna's dog, Blossom, an 8 year old rescue Lab-something cross, but she hasn't met Mel's Jax, a 4 year old Doberman. Jax is huge. Not fat, just huge, so I think Joy may be a little anxious about him at first. However he's a lovely, goofy, silly, gentle dog, so I'm pretty sure they'll be fine together.
After the walk it'll be home to wash the mud off, then in the early evening everyone will come to my house. 'Everyone' is Trevor's son Dan, with his son Zach (14) Mel's husband, Marcus, with their two children, Cassidy (12) and Nia (9). We'll also be joined by an old friend of Trevor's from the Fire Service and his wife, and two other couples, the friends who have done the most looking after me lately, dear friends of Trevor's and mine. Nia is going to read out a poem she has written about her Grandad and then I'm giving all three grandchildren a bear each. These have been made from three of Trevor's favourite shirts and are called Memory Bears. Mel found someone locally who makes them, and they're gorgeous. Then Miff, (ex fire fighter) is going to light an ENORMOUS firework. This, I have been assured is not particularly loud but will be quite spectacular and should last for several minutes. Then we have a table for all 14 of us booked at a local Indian restaurant that has become a family favourite over the years.
I'm looking forward to it but also expecting a few tears to be shed, particularly around Nia's poem and the giving of the bears. Have warned people to bring tissues!
No rain dances for tomorrow please, we're all hoping for a bright day and a dry evening for the firework!:fireworks::clap:

That sounds like a very special day @Candy, I'm sure it will be very sad at times but I do hope you get the chance to laugh and share funny memories too. Trevor's family sound lovely and I love the idea of the bears made from his shirts. I'm sure they will be treasured and kept for many years to come.

I hope GGJ has a lovely walk with her doggie relatives.( This weekend I have seen adverts for both her perfumes☺)

Sending hugs xx

What a wonderful way to celebrate his birthday and his memory. It's so lovely for everyone to come together like that, even though I imagine it will be hard in many ways. Will be thinking of you.

Oh Candy, that sounds like a really special day. You've got all the most important people from his/your life, and you're doing things he would have loved. It's beautiful. Have a very lovely day, it sounds like you're going to be surrounded by many very special people

Many, many thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts, support and lovely comments. Just sitting by the fire now with Joy, waiting to see Trevor's birthday in and drink a glass of wine to him. We always did this on each others' birthdays and I see no reason to stop. If you want to picture the scene and you have The Calendar, then think of Fred and Annie's fireside. I almost thought they'd moved in with little Joy and me when I saw it! Anyway, thankyou again everyone. Your being there means a lot to me.xxx
