A special day tomorrow.

What a wonderful thing to do to celebrate Trevor's special birthday, so far it looks as if it is a beautiful day for a walk. Trevor must have been greatly loved to have such a splendid day planned, yes there will be tears but some lovely memories xxx

What a wonderful way to remember but very emotional I expect, the memory bears are an amazing idea, I have not heard of that before. Hope all goes well for you today and no rain!

Reporting back from a day that really was special, and thanks again for all your kind thoughts.
The weather was lovely for our walk, blue skies and crisp air. Joy, as I had expected was a bit scared of Jax at first but once she realised how gentle he is they had a great time together. Donna, Mel and I have decided to make time at least once a month to all meet up for a walk with our dogs.
I spent the afternoon putting Christmas lights and lanterns out in the garden. This is earlier than I'd usually do it, but I wanted it to look pretty and festive and it did. Donna and Mel turned up to help out and had bought three helium balloons with Happy Birthday on, one for each grandchild to let fly upwards. Then everyone else arrived. I had asked Miff, Trevor's Fire Service friend if he would light the firework for us, and he decided to take it out of the box and have a look at it. This was fortunate, as the instructions were that all spectators should stand at least 25 metres away. My garden's not that long! Miff suggested that when the time came to set it off we could drive down to the local cricket field and light it there. All through this there was a lot of banter and what I have always thought of as firefighters' humour. This made me laugh a lot. I hadn't realised that this is one of the things I've been missing so much, having lived with it for 18 years. Then Nia read her poem (more of that shortly), the grandchildren let go of the balloons and we cheered as they floated skywards. Next was the giving of the Memory Bears. I had worried a little that the two boys might think they were too old for them, being 14 and 12, but they hugged and kissed them as much as Nia did. Then in a convoy to the cricket field, where the firework was massive and spectacular and seemed never ending. Nia insisted that we all sing Happy Birthday, then she led us in Three Cheers! On to the restaurant, a good meal, more banter, funny stories and happy memories. A lovely, lovely time. I now absolutely have to let you read Nia's poem, with the original spelling of course. Wet eye warning!
My grandad. My grandad
A verry special man
he had many many dogs
he was quite a fan.

He was tall, goodlooking and smart
With a very good heart.

I miss him verry much
his hugs and his gentel touch

Even though I can not see him
he's always by my side
I imagine his face smiling with pride

Happy birthday grandad
My shining star
I hope your celebrating Where ever you are.

Love from yore grandaughterer,
Nia

(Don't say I didn't warn you about the wet eyes!)
