Glancing out of the bedroom window thismorning I saw the dog that attacked Joy being taken for a walk along the towpath. He was on a lead. Then a woman I know with two elderly Springers approached and the owner of the attacking dog pulled him to one side until they had gone past.
This has made me feel safer and happier about walking Joy in the area although I still don't want to come face to face with them, she remembers everything and would be so frightened.

Flipping 'eck, just back on the forum after only a few days off and look what's happened. This is horrible Candy, thank goodness Joy is healing now, the wound looks great outside and it seems GGGJ is getting back to her usual self.
Those scaffolders were fantastic and it seems the police too are determined. You must have been in bits, what a worry for you:hug:

I wonder if that man has been contacted yet by the police, if he walks at the same time past your house maybe take a picture from your window when he can't see you.

Several other dog owners who I have spoken to locally have seen this dog around and said that they don't like the look of it and it should be on lead, some have said it should be muzzled but none of us know where they live.
Joy is pretty lively and back to normal today. :tail::pull::dug: We can still only have on lead walks so have been exploring little lanes and villages. I don't want to take her to anywhere that dogs are off lead until she can be off lead herself, don't want an off lead dog to approach her when she's on lead incase it frightens her. She has met several very nice dogs on their leads today and been fine with them. One of them was a gorgeous and goofy big male chocolate lab the same age as her and she wanted to play with him, which I was pleased about. His owner noticed her wound and asked what happened. He was horrified when I told him. A similar thing had happened to his dog and the only way he could get the other dog off was by jabbing it in the face with his car keys. It wasn't the dog that attacked Joy, although it is one that I have seen around.

That was a good walk Candy. Someone in your village must know this man and where he lives. It seems he is out and about daily. Would your local village shop etc. know? If he's got the dog on lead maybe the Police have spoken to him. Maybe you could give the Police a call for an update? xx

We're not actually in a village, it's a small town and the local shop is Lidl! I would have asked people in my local pub if I could, but they're all closed due to Covid. However a lot of people seem to know him by sight and as I said, I'm a lot happier now that he has the dog on a lead.

Do you think that dogs have nightmares? Twice tonight whilst asleep by my chair Joy has been yelping loudly and twitching and jerking so much that the first time I thought she was having a seizure! I just put a hand on her and spoke gently to her and it stopped immediately both times. I have known her do the normal squeaky, paw twitchy thing before but never to this extent. She calms as soon as I touch her, so I'm not over worried, also she's fine as soon as she wakes up. Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with a dog, or has any thoughts. She doesn't appear to be in any pain, or at all distressed once she's awake.

@Candy I believe they do dream and have nightmares. Harley squeaks and makes funny noises and jerks when asleep and it Usually coincides wit’s the days my dog Walker has said a strange dog ran up, or Harley was unsure about a dog nearby or when she’s gone into defence mode. I always smooth her and snuggle until she settles and that usually helps both of us I think. The following day she’s always back to her normal self.

My Mama Jodhi used to have amazing dreams where the paws would flail, her face would contort in weird positions and she'd sound like a stuck pig. I don't think they were nightmares, though - if you woke her up, she'd look disgusted with you. "How dare you disturb my peaceful slumber!"

I'm more worried when a dog can't fall asleep to begin with. Poor little Toby (@Aitch 's Toby) used to try to keep awake standing up and would jerk himself awake over and over. That was really sad, poor little man.

Rory barks howls growls and leaps about. I stroke him and talk gently to him then he's ok. He does it a lot. Rorys very noisy when hes awake too. Just sooth her it will get better. Moo used to sit up and howl it was so Erie.

Thanks @Naya and @Emily_Babbelhund I'm used to the normal dog twitching and squeaking thing, as all my dogs have done it, but this was a touch more dramatic, yet over so quickly once I touched her and spoke to her, so not really worrying at all in the context of a dog that has had a very safe life apart from one brief and scary incident. My heart goes out to the poor little Tobys of the world though. It's awful to think of a dog who's afraid to go to sleep. :'( Bless all of you who help these frightened little souls. xxx
