A traumatic morning.

I definitely think they have nightmares. If I think Obi is having one I do what you did - stroke him gently - and it seems to bring an end to the unhappy sounds.

Maisy often 'dreams' and sometimes it is quite scary like she is convulsing, her whole body shakes and jumps. She also growls, barks, whimpers, twitches and my favourite - wags her tail like crazy, so funny. Apparently these are reactions to lots of mental stimulation which explains why it is far worse when Maisy has been to her dog club or met a lot of friends.

wags her tail like crazy, so funny.

Red was dreaming a few days ago - her body twitching. She was making whimpering noises. Her tail was thudding the carpet furiously for ages

Yes, I think they can have nightmares, too. Willow used to make scared-sounding noises in her sleep and I'd stroke her gently until they stopped. Most of the time, it's grr-wuffing, eating, paws running, and tails wagging, though

They are very cute when they make sulking noises and their tongues curl out. Fast a sleep and dreaming of mum

Poppy has nightmares where she cries and barks. I wake her gently, and she moans for a few seconds, as though telling me all about her dream...

Pongo is the gentlest dog you can imagine, he hardly ever growls and never, never snarls. But in his dreams he turns into a snarly, lip-curling, growling fierce brute of a dog. Usually quickly followed by enthusiastic tail wagging whacking the floor. I have no idea what he is doing.

Back to the vet thismorning for a check up. He's a little concerned about a seroma that Joy's developed. He's taken some fluid from it and says there's no sign of infection but he'll send it to the lab for checking just to be on the safe side. So we're still limited to on lead walks only and he'll see her again on Tuesday.

Hope the swelling is nothing to worry about. I'm sure you're both desperate to get back to off-lead walks.

Molly has nightmares fairly frequently when she howls. I speak to her to wake her up and then gently reassure her.

The vet doesn't think it's anything to worry about but he is, by his own admission a Worst Case Scenario kind of person, so tends to be cautious and not risk anything, which is fine by me. The last I heard from the police was when I contacted them to tell them that I'd seen the dog again and it was on lead. They were still waiting to see the CCTV footage . Joy seems fine in herself, the seroma doesn't seem to be a problem for her. Hopefully it will start to dissipate soon. The main thing is to make sure that it doesn't turn into an abscess.

Sam developed a seroma after his cancer surgery , it terrified the life out of me but our Vet assured us that it would soon begin to shrink as he became more active and the fluid would be absorbed into the body , which is did , so I hope the same for dear little Joy xxx
