Abscessed anal sac

Poor Ariel was afflicted with this over the weekend. She was very agitated by it - we kept her as comfy as possible by applying an epsom salt mixture to the raw tissue, and we had some Metacam on hand, so we used some of that orally as well. She’s now on antibiotics after her vet visit yesterday, and we’ll continue with the metacam. I’m glad she’s starting to seem more herself today. Poor girl…. She’s back for a follow up in 2 weeks, and they’ll drain her gland(s) then. Unfortunately, no swimmy fetch for 2 weeks.

Oh dear, that is horrid. My old boy Billy had this once, it was horrid. However, it cleared up with draining and antibiotics, and he made a full recovery, so hopefully Ariel will be right as rain again in a week or so.

She has improved dramatically from yesterday, little love! She takes her meds willingly, and showed much more interest in having a walk today. The medications are working their magic!

Thanks for asking @Cath. She has improved sooooo much over the past week and is hardly interested in it at all anymore. The raw tissue on the outside has healed right up (yes, I've spent an inordinate amount of time with my face in her butt!! lol) It's so nice to see her back to her usual silly self with her goofy personality. Follow up appointment next Tuesday with the vet.
