Advice for first viewing of litter

Pick the cheeky bold one
It's interesting, I grew up with that advice. But when I chose Cassie, and admiitedly I had the chance to get to know the litter from 3 weeks of age, I watched them all and chose the little one who was always the last to leave the "nest" and who often went her own way. There was just something about her that set her apart, in my eyes. She wasn't timid, and I don't think anyone who has met her would describe her as such, or fearful. In fact, she is often described as a thinking dog.

Of course, she could have been last out because she was smaller, but it's interesting to reflect on it.

@Lara_Pigletina , that's a stunning looking pup, I hope your relatives enjoy her! Good call with the Happy Puppy book !

Was it them that had the great Dane cross @Lara_Pigletina ?
Yes - it was a bit of a sad story. He was 1.5 years when they adopted him from the rescue centre and it gradually became apparent he was reactive to other dogs and some people. They spent a year working with him trying to fix it...they went to numerous behaviourists etc (although their advice wasn’t really how we would go about stuff on this forum) with no improvement. Part of the problem was that they live in a busy seaside town, where you step out the door and there are people and dogs everywhere. There was nowhere to walk him where other off-lead dogs wouldn’t just run up to him despite him having a yellow ‘nervous’ lead on him. So he gradually got worse not better and ended up jumping up and biting (not a real bite, I think a warning bite) a builder. So he went back to the rescue centre, and is still there :( he needed to live in a rural area where he could be gradually introduced to people and dogs at a distance really. Anyway, my parents decided they had enough of dogs with problems (before the Dane they had a successful rescue of a boxer/mastiff cross who was reactive as a young dog but calmed down into a docile big teddy bear).

Oh I'm sorry to hear that @Lara_Pigletina, that's a shame for all of them. Sounds like their location was never going to work for him. Hopefully his forever home will turn up soon.
Bring on the puppy then!
