Amber us acting strange after a trauma.

The day before yesterday Amber was sleeping in OH's office and she suddenly got up and ran down stairs faster than I have ever seen her move before. So fast that she hit some cupboard doors very, very hard. She kept on running down to the ground floor ( three storey house ). When she came back up to the second storey she came straight to me shaking and scared. Since then she has been acting out of character, following me around all day when she is usually in OH's office, suddenly crying or becoming clingy, shaking and staring at nothing etc. I have looked at her for concussion but I am not seeing the signs.
My sweet girl is terribly unhappy and despite all sorts of checks on my part she is suddenly very scared and puppy like. She is eating well and still loves her walks. I don't think this is physical.
I am a human psychologist not a dog one. I have no idea what is going with her. Any ideas? Was it a bad dream followed by physical trauma? Did a noise scare her? I and OH have no idea. She is just not herself.

I've had Rory wake from a clearly distressing dream and jump on to my knee shaking and inconsolable. I could image if he hit some doors in this state he would suffer some emotional trauma. He's that kind of dog he's very sensitive and he does go very puppy clingy when he's had something upset him. Hope she's ok.

Oh the poor thing, how upsetting

I remember Ella doing zoomies once and ran so hard and fast that she crashed into a door frame and hurt herself. Following that, she didn't go near that part of the house for days and if she had to, she trembled and cowered past.

It was amazing how much a fright, coupled with some pain, affected how she behaved.

This sounds really sensible. They may be able to advise on a specialist behaviorist if appropriate?

I would certainly do this! She could be in pain, when Euan was in pain he would sometimes jump up like he was stung by something. He could also be quite distressed. Better let her be checked by the vet if something physical is wrong!

She is no better this morning so I think our vet is needed. I have checked her all over and can find nothing so it is time to get her properly checked out.

Oh dear, yes, definitely a vet check. I hope it’s easily sorted. Wispa has bouts of being terrified when she goes into the garden, but this usually resolves in a few hours (it seems to be triggered by something she can sense or smell). Tuppence is terrified by a high-pitched alarm noise, but again calms down after a while. It’s difficult to know how to help them.

So sorry to hear about Amber. Sometimes Hunter does this when he has acute pain in his elbow. I can understand how worried you must be feeling.
I think the vet check is a very sensible choice, X

It's bad enough when they behave like this and you do know what caused it, little wonder you are worried if you don't.
