Anal Glands

an arc of liquid wooshed out of his bum...yuk. I presumed anal gland juice :speaktothehand: tbh there wasn’t the usual odour, not seen that before or since.
My word! I think seeing that once is probably more than enough
comes back looking much less glandular.
Beautifully put!
Does seem they all deal (or don't deal) with them differently, I've never had a dog who does her own like Cassie does. There's no fishy smell on her breathe at all. She did smell and I remember now getting the vet nurse to expel them before I switched her food from Skinners to Burns. I plan to increase the veggies in her diet though, (keep saying that) for weight control reasons, bought some reduced broccoli yesterday as a start!

Snowie used to have terrible anal glands. In our house, we’d say that he’s “smelling anal”. Revolting smell. I do think it was a combination of allergies and itchiness, and anxiety before having a seizure. Now that he’s not as itchy and no longer has seizures, his anals (as we call them) are mostly normal. When he poos, he does a final pinch and out squirts some anal juice. But back when they were problematic and inflamed, I’d rub calendula cream into the area (what one only does for love!). One night, just as I was about to go to bed, I was rubbing cream into the area and pppffftttt out squirted anal juice into my hair!!!! Eeuuuwww!!!! I stunk like a zoo. Had to scrub my hair clean!

He now gets a raw chicken foot with breakfast and supper (for the chondroitin) and I find his poos are now a harder consistency, good for squeezing the anal glands.
