We're in Cornwall for a week. We come every year and we all love it including Lady. Lately, however, the SBD has been having trouble with her elbows and on top of it all has taken on all the characteristics of an old dog. Maybe she is, but I would have thought 9 years and 8 months was a little early. Anyway walking is now slow and she runs out of steam pretty quickly. Today we took her up onto the moors at Carnyorth for a picnic lunch and then back to the car - a couple of miles round trip including several Cornish stiles one of which she fell off which didn't help the elbow situation. She was quite tired when we got back to the car so we were in two minds whether to take her to a beach near Pendeen. In the end we did and it was a joy dog wise.
I took off my shoes and socks and had a paddle - it was unusually calm - and Lady followed quite interested in me going in the water. Then we did a few retrieves in the sea and Lady just transformed. The years slid off before our eyes and she was a young dog again. Full of get up and go and play bobbing with much waggy tail. Good old Lady.
She's zonked out in her bed now and rather stiff. But such a nice day.
