Annie's eye

Annie has two warts (one on her eye lid and the other in the same eye in the corner ). We showed them to the vet (UK) in January and he said to leave them.

While we were in France, Annie got an eye infection (conjunctivitis) and we took her to the vets. She had cream twice a day for 8 days and sat while I gave it her no problem. The vet said that he could remove them if we wished.

Now has anyone's dog had eye warts and if so what did you do? Thank you

Yes, Cass had a strange little black thing on the lower lid of one eye about 3 years ago. It wasn't bothering her nor did it grow, it just spoilt the beauty of those brown eyes :giggl:

When she went for her vaccination/check up that year I asked the competent and lovely young vet about it, she said she wasn't worried as it was clearly attached to the lid and not the eye itself, and to go back if it did change. The only change was that it fell off a few months later ! It think in Cassies case it was some sort of scab from a scratch from getting in amongst brambles etc.

The lovely young vet subsequently became my son's girlfriend - but none of us knew then that that was in the stars!:inlove:

Thank you Helen. Annie's wart is on her top lid, but rests on her eye. Its about 5mm long. The one in the corner of her eye is smaller.
I wish she could tell me what she would want me to do for her. She is very good. I called her when I needed to put the cream in her eye, she
came and sat in front of me while I did it. She is so trusting and I only want to do what is best for her, like we all do with our dear doggie friends.

Snowie had a wart growing inside the lower lid. The vet said it would scratch his cornea and must be removed, but he recommended the ophthalmologist vet to do it. While she did that wart, we asked her to remove another one above his eye. Her teeny tiny stitches were amazing, and afterwards you couldn’t tell he’d had anything done.

With eyes, I have found the ophthalmologist vet has always been the best choice. We learned the expensive route with another eye issue, where three visits to a regular vet achieved nothing. One visit to the ophthalmologist vet and Snowie was sorted. (In that case, it was a lacerated cornea.)

I, too, wouldn’t remove anything unless necessary. But if you’re concerned, perhaps consult a specialist opthalmologist vet?

Brogan, my dog before Carbón got a growth on his upper eyelid, right in the outer edge, when he was a senior. At a certain point I was worried that it would irritate his eye or obstruct his vision, so I asked our vet in Germany during a visit for something else.

She took a look, said it was harmless but could remove it. Before I could even formulate the next question like ‘will it require GA’ or ‘when should we come in to have it done’, she grabbed some scissors and Brogan’s head and snipped it off! 😦

I don’t know who was more shocked, me or Brogan. It was all fine, he didn’t yelp and healed without incident - I don’t even think there was much more than a drop of blood afterwards.

I was pretty horrified, though. If nothing else, that vet was super close to poking his eye out if he would have jerked at the wrong moment.

It did start coming back almost immediately, though it never got as big as it was before his ‘2 second surgery’. I also never asked that vet about it again as I really didn’t want a repeat!

I had his Spanish vet monitor it, and she was happy to leave it alone and continue to pronounce it harmless. I told her what the German vet had done and I think it just added to her opinion that Germans are nuts. 😉

That's not for our Annie

That's what our English vet said.

We have one at our English vets. Our practice has a hospital in the next town.

I think I will watch and wait. Thanks everyone
