Annual Jabs

Her - That's ok, lockdown will be over in two weeks, just bring them in.

Me - Um - well - we don't know that, do we?

Her - It's fine, just bring puppy in at 8 weeks for vaccinations, no problem.
What? That's a bit optimistic isn't it? Maybe they know something we don't.
In any case, I will ring them in a month and check again. Might ask about titre testing at a later date when back to normal.
Thanks everyone.

I'm taking this with a pinch of salt - however I'm pleased that there seems to be no barrier to puppy getting his first jabs.

I must admit to not having any idea how Angela is doing @snowbunny . Another dog-unfriendly and and tough laws region. Has anyone been in touch?
Yes, she's doing OK - being a bit of a sneaky beaky going out at 4am for quick empties and hiding from security. But no walking, although I believe things have been relaxed a bit for Ramadan. Because, that makes sense, right. No virus risk during Ramadan :wasntme:

My neighbours got their Yorkie puppy right before lockdown and have been able to get all his jabs on schedule. Their regular vet closed down, but referred them to another vet who did all of them. Seems like where there's a will, there's a way (or a back up vet).

Thank you everyone for your sympathies. And apologies @Shaz82 for high-jacking your thread!

On the plus side, Snowie is getting a lot more training. When he starts to agitate, I say, Let’s do training! And he gets very excited. Cos, you know, treats! My husband watched a few Cruft agility videos (for the laughs—some hilarious bloopers), and became inspired to set up a gymkhana field for Snowie. A few cavaletti poles between stools (walking stick, broomstick, and umbrella). Weaving poles (stools and the kitchen bin). Walking backwards alongside the kitchen island. And a podium at the end (an upturned Tupperware box)—for some core exercises. Snowie loves it!

He’s also learning to place alternate paws on our knees. A lot of sniffing find-it games. And a LOT of peanut butter being licked out of containers.

Snowie might look back fondly on lockdown as The Time We Ate A Ton Of Treats! We have been fattening the curves. All of us. :wasntme:

Thanks to your creativity, that's exactly what he's thinking. He doesn't know about this whole lockdown thing! For your sake, however, I hope you get some more freedoms soon.

I can empathise. 'Nuff said.

He doesn't know about this whole lockdown thing!
Sadly I think he does. He’s been holding in his poos. Anals doing a right job on our carpets. And he agitates a LOT all day. Prior to this, two good walks and he was happy to sleep the rest of the day. He wants a lot more attention now. Whimpers a LOT. Sadly I have started to shout at him: SHUT UP! His crying for attention is driving me mad. It’s not his fault at all. Of course. But I sometimes can’t help myself because of the immense stress I feel I’m under—we also own an investment flat and our tenant has informed us he’s lost his income due to covid-19 and can’t pay rent, and my husband’s work has stopped, too, due to covid-19. Not being able to walk my dog is the straw that might break my back.

I can so understand the stress you must be feeling @M.F one thing on top of the other, horrible for you. I am sure Snowy is picking up the tension and in a way he has learnt to train you now, not that he meant to do that and you didn't mean to teach him that! Could you teach him to 'settle' as something else to learn? Hide tiny bits of food around the house? I know this is all easier said than done and I am sure I would also be shouting SHUT UP! It must be so frustrating for a dog to have all that energy and not be able to walk it off.

He knows “go sleepy” which basically means to go to his sleep spot and lie down. I feel so bad telling him to go to sleep all the time. Especially when he’s most likely not sleepy! But I have explained to him (yup, I did talk to him in many words that I would never expect a dog to understand!!) that during lockdown he’s going to have to sleep a lot.

The finding bits of food around the house is our savior. It does tire him out. Thankfully!

But he now wants to go into the pond about 6-8 times a day! (Before it was usually only after a walk.) And for some unknown reason, he wants us to watch him. So he’ll go to the patio and then start moaning. If we don’t come, he’ll bark. And then he waits till we say, Go swim! I have no idea how we ever trained this, that he must ask permission to go into the pond!!! (Same with jumping on the bed.) But then we must dry him before he’s allowed inside, and that is time-consuming. So, with all this added activity, I hardly get any work done!!

It is probably a perfect time to slot in that settle exercise.
I think we had a whole thread on it in our earlier days. Can anyone find the link? Can't do it so easily on my phone.

@M.F. asking permission to swim must be annoying at this time, but better than he jumps in when you aren't looking! If he can swim, that will use up some energy if the pool is big enough. Perhaps start teaching him he can swim three times and then after that, absolutely not, he will eventually learn, that 3 times only, but you will have to be strong to begin with! Then later in the day, he can have another three (or two or even four, up to you!).

Our pond is quite shallow. He could swim between the lilies but he is not a keen swimmer. I wish he was!! So “go swim” means to walk into the pond, wallow and drink the water, then come out. The problem is when he wants a drink, he’ll insist on going into the pond to drink!!! And with all the treats, he’s thirstier than usual. He has a lovely big water bowl. But will he drink out of it? Nope!!!! Maddening! He’ll drink out of similar water bowls of we’re out at a market or cafe. But at home he insists on being submerged in the water he’s drinking. We’ve tried treats in his water bowl. Blocking the way to the pond so he’ll be forced to use the bowl. No, he’ll moan and insist. And eventually I give up because I need the peace to work. Under normal circumstances he’s not needed to drink so much.

Good news. GREAT news!!! From tomorrow we can walk 6-9am within a 5km radius of our homes. That includes the mountain and beachfront for me. I’m ecstatic!! Beaches are closed. At 6am I’ll do a leash walk to the beachfront for 30 mins. At 8.15am I’ll do a mountain off-leash walk for 45 mins. Hopefully we’ll build up strength and stamina—both of us after this lockdown—so that we can hike for a couple of hours every morning. Hopefully that’ll do Snowie for the rest of the day.

Stupid stupid time slot. So, 1000s of residents all out running on the beachfront at the same time in close proximity. It only gets light at 7.20am, so most people will exercise later. Totally clueless law makers.
