He is adorable
I found 8-12 months was the hardest time with Harley. I’ve never had a dog before so it was completely new to me. I went back to basics with all training and made sure I was consistent and it eventually paid off! It’s hard work but so rewarding.

Hi @Jo anne and welcome! Yes, having a lab can be quite an adventure! There's been lots of good advice already, but also just make sure you don’t over-stimulate him. Labs often don’t know when to stop and can then get overtired and silly - just like children! It’s best to keep training sessions short so that you can finish on a good note.

Stanley looks very handsome. Thanks for sharing the photos. :)

Welcome @Jo anne and Stanley from me and Xena in NZ. You've had fabulous advice already, I just want to chime in and say that it takes dozens of hours (hundreds more like) of blood, sweat, and tears before you're rewarded with an amazing companion. I got off easy when it came to Xena in hindsight, but I still had to put an inordinate amount of training into her to make her into the amazing (but far from perfect) dog that she is.

And one day you'll look back at your vet visit and laugh. When Xena was an adolescent the nurse dropped an entire container of treats onto the floor while she was trying to get her onto the scales. Xena snarfed them up like her life depended on it. Every subsequent visit for months she'd charge over to the "magical treat scale" and frantically search for the dropped treats. They are totally ruled by their stomachs.

Welcome here! Stanley looks gorgeous! You’ve had some good advice already, just hang in there and keep up the training. You will have an adult dog sooner than you think and you will look back and laugh, honest!

Hello and welcome from Fred, Annie and me. Stanley is still very young, but keep going with the training and he will be fine.
He will soon grow up and you will wonder where the time has gone.

Hi @Jo anne and welcome from Maxx and I in Sydney, Australia. Our little (! 43 kilos!) boy is 14 months and we are still finding him hard work but if you are consistent you will see rewards. He is our 2nd lab and so different to our first but both are)were the most amazing and loyal dogs. They are just a bit (!) challenging as pups.
Hi,14 months and still hard??oh no!! He is laid in front of the fire now acting like butter wouldn’t melt then he wakes up and reminds me he is here 🐕

He’s lovely @Jo anne - we also had Cavaliers before we got Tatze. My husband was the one who decided on a Lab. He said he wanted a ‘proper dog’ - I’m still not sure what that means! 🤔
That’s exactly the same for us,my husband wanted a bigger dog who was more up for long walks,it’s back fired big time because when they come back from a walk my husband looks traumatised.

Aww he is gorgeous, still naughty at 2????
It depends what you define as naughty really..

He walks lovely on his lead, comes when he’s called and doesn’t chew anything. But he drops my FIL’s slippers in the pond, opened his presents from under the tree before he was supposed to (only his though!) and he just licked my bagel that I had in my hand 🤔 so it balances out really 😁

Haha that’s all good 👍 if we can get him walking without pulling, not trying to eat everything in sight on the walks, coming back when called oh and jumping up at people,I would feel complete and satisfied, the other stuff is his cheeky character which I love.

Just a quick techie note: when you upload pictures, they show up as thumbnails at the bottom of your post by default. But we like to see the full versions because PUPPIES!! So once you’ve uploaded, you’ll see there’s a little bit that says something like “Insert all as” and then “Thumbnails” or “Full images”. Click on the “Full images” option and they’ll show up nice and big for us :)

Keep the faith !!!!!!!!! They are all so different, and we are never really prepared even when we have owned Labs before ! I lost my darling Sam just over a year ago , he was only six years old and the calmest puppy I have ever had . Enter Reuben , full on , confident , fearless and quite manic at times but having owned Labs before , I know that this too shall pass ! They must be wonderful dogs if we keep getting them , its just the storm we have to ride before we reach that wonderful dog ! x
