We had my son's cockapoo for the afternoon yesterday. She's now 5 months old and lovely and at the "not quite fully set" stage if you know what I mean. Still very puppy squiggly.
We took her for a walk over the fields and let her off the lead as soon as we were in a safe location. She's nuts! Running continuously like a spanner. The first thing she did was launch herself into the river and had a good swim (it's safe). She seems to have a good nose on her because she immediately picked up the rabbit and pheasant scents in the hedges and was in hunting.
The down side was she got under the stock fence into the next field. Fortunately she has a good recall to the whistle and seems smart enough to remember where she got through. Apart from the recall everything else is a complete nightmare but fun at the same time.
We both had a go at a bit of lead walking - let's say that that's a work in progress.
Back home she loved Lady's quacking duck, my gardening gloves, a shoe (why are puppies fixated on shoes?), pulled plants out of plant pots and had two swims in the garden pond.
We had her for about 3 hours and were both exhausted by the time we handed her back. We ended up taking her in our car as my son's family needed a lift from the pub where they had been meeting up with friends. No cage or harness so we were a bit worried about Nina getting out of control. We didn't need to be. She was as good as gold. I put Lady's old car bed in the boot (really squidgy so she sank into it and didn't slide about) and Nina just settled down on it and went to sleep.
Lovely! Here's a picture.
