Blue green algae

I'm hearing that some areas are being affected by blue green algae in the UK due to the weather conditions. Please take a look at the internet so you are aware what it looks like and symptoms. It is very dangerous and has been reported in some areas.

Thanks for posting this. Our local lakes have a warning sign up and apparently the area is being checked by Environmental Health tomorrow.

I've heard some places in north Yorks have been affect and Stoke on Trent

Bewl water in Kent is affected. There have already been fatalities!

Anyone in the Kent/Sussex area please don't take your dogs to Bewl Water. Another dog, a little cocker spaniel, has died after swimming there!

We get this every year in one or two of our local reservoirs, you can see it when it’s present and there is a foamy scum - that’s the dangerous stuff.

We get toxic algal bloom here in NZ, which is the dark green slimy stuff that appears on rocks in rivers. A coin-sized piece is enough to kill a Labrador, it's horrid. I've never heard of a warning for blue green algae - these things must vary from country/ecosystem to country.

I never paid much attention to the algae threads, as I had never heard of it here. Just got a warning that a place we bring Quinn to all the time (twice last week!) tested positive for blue green algae! Going to have to pay attention from now on!
