Can dogs catch a cold?

I really think Merlin may have a cold...

It's been really warm here, so he's been doing lots of swimming. I am very careful about drying him off, but OH less so. For the last several days he has been doing an odd sort of throat clearing (especially after resting), a bit of sneezing, and some snot came out of his nose yesterday. He also feels a little warm to me on his nose and ears, and he is very slightly less bouncy than normal, just not quite his normal self. It's not something that you'd even notice if you didn't know him as well as we do.

At the moment I am keeping an eye on it, and if he is not improved in the next day or two, it'll be a visit to the vet.

Has anyone else had this with their dog?

No , I havent had experience of doggy colds, but I believe they can suffer from them . They cant catch colds from humans but can suffer similar types of bugs and virus . Poor Lamb , lots of fluids for him . hoping a Vet visit wont be needed xx

Is it possible there is a grass seed stuck somewhere? Possibly causing irritation to the roof of his mouth and ears? Hope he feels better soon x

That did occur to me... I cannot see anything, but will keep it in mind. If he's still under par and/or running a temperature tomorrow I'll take him to the vet. It's nothing big, you know, just a feeling that he is slightly off colour.

Could it be hay fever? Snowie gets a snotty nose that he rubs and blows into his bed. Or the side of our bed! Or between my legs! When it seems really snotty, I take a tissue and tell him to blow into it. Of course he doesn’t know how! But he seems to like having his nose wiped and squeezed, and sometimes he does a sort of blow. It coincides with when my husband has hay fever, so I’m assuming Snowie also gets it.

So the cold is better, Merlin is back to his normal self, but this morning he had a slight limp on his front right leg. Last week he had a slight limp on one of his front legs too, unfortunately I can no longer remember if it was the right or the left front leg! At any case, OH is taking him in to the vet this afternoon, we just want to make sure he hasn't picked up borreliosis or anaplasmosis.
