Can dogs get ill from eating human poop?

We have a human pooper on our daily track. They poop on the very edge right in the open, not in the bushes, which makes me think that it's a perv who's doing it to get his jollies. And yep, Xena always goes for it *vom* She has never been ill from it but I usually manage to haul her off after the first bite.

We have never come across human poo, but I'm sure if we did Chewie would view it as some sort of delicacy. His favourite is possum and he is also partial to a bit of brush turkey poo... He did once lunge at and I think grab a bite of some very chunky human vomit on a Sunday morning.

If Stanley ate it I would brush his teeth with actual toothpaste though. None of this doggy stuff

If I'm being honest (usually I suppress the memory) Ella has eaten it once. We were camping and, I'm not sure if this makes it better or worse but, I actually knew the owner of the, um, specimen. We had three labs there and all spotted the find before us but I quickly distracted them while my friends threw rocks over the area. Luckily we were next to the river so we spent about half an hour throwing rocks in while the labs stuck their noses into the water in an attempt to find them.

It is very unlikely that a dog eating human poo would become ill. Yes the human might be ill with a nasty infectious disease, but again I really don't think so!( But more worried if you found the body later on your walk!!! ) Most drugs are metabolised through the liver and rendered inactive by the time they are excreted. Check around the area for clues... such as a campfire, tbh I would be more worried about rubbish left. I don't think in this case, one lone wetwipe is going to do any harm!!

Worse than eating it, Poppy rolled around in some this summer! She didn't go into the stream afterward despite all encouragement so I had to sponge the foul smelling stuff off myself.
I do understand "getting caught short" but this was all over her!
