Car seatbelts

My Allsafe harnesses come with a special part that attaches to the webbing of the seatbelt, and can move up and down it. It doesn’t use the isofix points. It is attached by two threaded carabiners, and then that clips on to the harness itself. You do need to be able to lock your seatbelts to use it properly, but I think most modern cars have that function.

Allsafte harness has the same fitting that Hicraft has. I can connect to the safe belt in the car or you can attach it to an seat belt point. Fred and Annie both lay in the back of the car. You can see what I mean by the photos. Sorry I am not very good at explaining it.

Here’s Obi right now in his Allsafe, en route from Sydney to Canberra.
He looks very comfy! :)

I think the Allsafe would work for us and be safer than using his walking harness as I do now. For short hops to the beach (less than 10 mins on rural roads) I'd probably just continue using his walking harness but for our long drives I'd feel better if he had a harness that had been strength tested.

Thanks for all the advice and to @Anne123 for asking the original question! (y)

We have different methods for different cars. Long journeys and holidays, we will be in the Estate car and he will be free in the boot. We haven't put a guard up as he couldn't get between the gaps above the head resets and he lies down as we travel. I'm not comfortable with a crate in the boot as I always think a bad rear collision could trap and injure him even more in the crate.

In my car, a smaller hatchback, half of the back seat comes forward to give him lots of space, there's a huge cushion which brings the boot up to the level of the seats. he is secured in his Copenhagen harness by a short, super strong leather lead which is looped through the solid metal D ring that the seat would clip into in an upright position. He has room to shift around and sit up, but not enough to end up past the back seats.

I feel that the Copenhagen is one of the strongest harnesses I've ever bought, I wouldn't use any of the other types I've got for travelling which have thinner straps, or just webbing.

I'm digging up an old thread. We've had to move Nathan's car seat to make room for the baby seat. This means Ella now has less space on the backseat and she's totally unimpressed.

I'm going to work on her comfort in the car. The first step was to put some rubber backed vetbed on her (leather) seat so that there is no sliding. This has helped. The second step will be to replace her SleepyPod car harness as it's getting a bit old/worn and is very restrictive.

I'm trying to decide between the Ezydog and the Allsafe. Help!

I have an EzyDog. I think it’s great and use it in my car. F prefers Red In the boot (estate car) of his car Using the grill so she doesn’t wear it then - I’d be happier with her in it on the back seat

The Ezydog certainly looks like a lot tess faff to put on and off than the Allsafe, which needs you to thread the webbing every time you put it on.
Allsafe makes a model with a quick release clip. It's super easy to get on and off, costs about EUR10 more than the old model. If I had to thread that webbing through each time I would have pulled out all my hair by now.

We get Obi to step into the Allsafe (older model without clip). He now picks up his front feet one at a time to be put through the front of the harness. Ditto Emily-B - If I had to re-thread the webbing every time I think I’d have burned it 😄
