It's been ages since I updated this. Honestly I have been training Charlie every day!! I feel a little embarrassed posting about Charlie's training as he's 10 years old, it just helps me to see where I've come from with him as it's so easy to forget.
Since Charlie has been constantly on lead for 10 months with a little off lead in the garden due to his cruciate problem he seems to have totally changed

I have been getting in to the garden doing some games and his response is spot on, instead of bombing round the garden he goes for a little scamper then chooses to be with me. Our training with 'leave' with eating copious amounts of deer poo and then honking it up on my rugs

is going great guns. I can spot what his intentions are and recall him back to me. The biggest improvement is with cars driving past - no barking, post van going down our neighbours long drive, he looks - no barking or running the hedge. Sees neighbours walking in their garden - no barking or running to the gate. The very unimaginable happened the other day, we were just mooching around I didn't see the post lady come through the gate, Charlie did he stopped looking at her, I recalled him - he ignored her and came to me. One very happy post lady! His lead walking is fabulous. David walked really early this morning and met our neighbour down the road who has a beautiful 16 month Hungarian Vizsla who is obviously very excitable, all dogs sat, no barking or lunging being treated for 10 minute chat. Thankfully her owner is a good trainer and does the same. Hattie was there so I suspect her calming influence played a part.
Indoor barking at neighbours walking down the drive is a bit hit and miss but most of the time he has a bark and comes to me for a scratch. All in all improvements. He will be allowed off lead on walks at the end of April so this all could end up being a pile of you know what!! I'm hopeful as he will be getting limited off lead with various games to keep him engaged. xx
