This issue has recurred recently. Off to the vet today. He seems fine when walking but can't get comfortable lying down and is pacing and whining at night. My concern is that it's a cervical spine issue.
Hmm, poor fellow. It could be all sorts, easier said than done but try to suspend judgement until you’ve seen the vet. Good luck, keep us posted!

The vet agrees it's a neck issue, but the good news is he doesn't have any weakness. We have Gabapentin and carprofen and instructions to rest.

The bad news is that it could be a disc issue, in which case it may well recur or progress. I'm not ready for him to have chronic health issues yet.

No, I'm sure your not. :saddog:
I hope the painkillers help him get more comfortable and relax any tension which might be adding to his problem xx
He's still my tiny baby! But I guess they (both!) will always be that to me.

He is currently resting on "his" rug in the foyer. Hopefully we have a better night tonight. He was quite worried at the vet. He let her do all the things and still went to her for a treat but he is smart enough to know what's up. I'm glad I had a bag full of liver treats. And she produced a packet of kangaroo jerky to give him as well.
