Chewie's first trip to a shop

Went surprisingly well! Not many shops here allow pets. We took him in to an outdoor supplies shop to buy a new lead (Ruffwear Knot a Lead I think it's called) and he was very polite. He had a good sniff around but didn't try to swipe anything (phew). He even lay down for a snooze in front of the till.

He made the owner's day, apparently. AND, much to my delight, received pets in a civilised fashion, without trying to kiss the owner on the face.

@Lab_adore, I think Petbarn would be so much more challenging! This is a quiet little shop with only the owner and 1 shop assistant. There was 1 other customer the whole 15 mins or so we were there. Also, it is mostly camping and rock climbing supplies, with "dog adventure" gear and some Ziwi Peak thrown in. Also, Chewie was "pre fatigued" after a walk on the foreshore and a good off lead run.

I wouldn't worry too much. I think Petbarn and Bunnings are both hugely challenging environments for a young Lab.

Good job, Chewie!

It would be great if more shops allowed dogs everywhere, they are such a great place to learn all sorts of positive behaviours. One thing I really do love about my little German town is that you commonly see dogs wandering around the department store.

Good boy! A snooze at a store, what a champ!

We have taken Quinn to every store that will let dogs in since the day we got her, and she has always been a good girl...until our outing to a big hunting/outdoor store that allows dogs a few weeks back and she peed on the carpet!! She's 3!! I was mortified...and at least 6 people saw it happen! I could feel people staring (this isn't like a pet store where puppies are peeing all over the place). It's attached to a mall. The employees said not to worry they would clean it up, but an hour later they still hadn't (I think that explains why dogs are peeing). I refuse to bring her back!
