Course happy!

I've signed up to three - yes, THREE - courses with FDSA this term.

Dealing with the Bogeyman - helping fearful, reactive and stressed dogs by Amy Cook

Worked Up! Understand, assess, and soothe arousal in sports dogs by Sarah Stremming

Relationship Building through Play by Denise Fenzi

I've joined all three at the basic bronze level (no posting of videos for feedback and no posting on the forums), but I'm considering taking Bogeyman at gold when it comes back around in December, if the content looks like it might help my little man.

It should keep me off the streets, anyway.

:)

Oh! I was looking at those and wondering about joining the relationship building through play :) They all look really good!

They all look good but I'm tempted to join Worked up and relationship building. I think they would be particularly good for Amber.
There is a herding webinar I'd be interested in too.

I was thinking about you yesterday when I was gardening and listening to a podcast with Deb Jones, talking about her cat clicker training class. One for Remy? ;)

There was another one, too, with Andrea Harrison (episode 15) that I thought might be of interest for setting yourself up for success - she works on the handler part of the team, sorting out how to settle nerves and to make yourself the best you can be. The thought of how nervous I would be in the WT environment you were in with Bramble made me think I'd be checking it out if I ever went to that level :)

Is that one gundog specific? I get so ridiculously nervous before going in the ring with Ella, I know it's winds her up ?

Now that sounds interesting! Absolutely my nerves got the better of me and transferred to Bramble. There is a photo of Bramble coming back with the dummy but offering some appeasement...I am trying to figure out why certainly it must be something I inadvertently communicated. I will dig out the photo, it's an interesting one.

Yesterday's training was a complete contrast. The tasks were much harder. Looking at marking skills with a remote dummy launcher. Everyone was finding it tricky.
The exercise was out in the field, roughly lined up. The remote dummy launcher went off 3 times. The dog had to mark the fall and be sent out x3. Technically the dog should photograph each fall, and be sent out as if for a seen retrieve. What was happening though is dogs being sent out fine the first time, then had to be handled on the 2nd and 3rd dummy. Really interesting. We had to treat each dummy as a seen...but the dogs were stuttering.. and stopping on the out expecting to be given direction. But not Bramble. She was truly amazing. Out like a bullet, 3 times, no handling not even a hunt whistle. She even marked everyone else's dummy and was sent out once to help. I have never, ever seen her so happy!

The point is Bramble knew she had done an incredible job..and was buzzing for the rest of the day, her confidence was soaring.

This is EXACTLY what I get with Poppy. On a good day, we are both on a high and things just go from good to better and better, with us building on each other's high... :) But the converse can be true too, and on a bad day, if I get upset or nervous, or if I make a wrong assessment of a task and something goes wrong, this can translate to her and end up with her being very nervy and making mistakes. Interesting how the dog's assessment of how things are going predicates how they feel and therefore how they perform overall.. Such sensitive little loves!!! It's the main reason I haven't entered the open class with her yet; I don't want to stress her unnecessarily - I'd rather have a happy time with her. Sorry, bit off topic, Fiona!!
