Credelio

Have just been to the vets to stock up on Maisy's Nexgard and Milbemax to find that they have replaced the Nexgard with Credelio.
Does anyone use this?

I am a bit worried about changing because Maisy had a bad reaction to Drontal Plus and I don't want to risk that again.
I suppose the only way to know it is ok for her is to try it.

The best thing really is to talk to your vet. I guess you can always get a prescription for 6 months of Nexgard and fulfil this online, you should break even cost wise.

A quick skim of papers suggests that Credilio is a new kid on the block with a fair amount of pre-clincial data behind it as well as a few field studies. One using an active comparator Nexgard looking at efficacy and tolerablility. Field studies are good as they reflect real life. The data though advises not to use in dogs with a history of seizure, I think this is a pretty standard recommendation accross all flea and tick treatments.

In the data table below, (see link...) the table representing one of the field studies, looks at adverse events experienced at a rate over 1% , note here look at percentages not numbers as ratio =2:1 vs active therapy which in this case was Nexgard. There is no real difference between the two treatments.

Some vomiting was commented on in other well controlled studies, but what this looks like in terms of a percentage is not clear, certainly this is not reported significantly in the large field study where dog are on other co-committent medications.

Data on Credeliio

So if it was me personally? Well the data looks promising, but if I had a dog who had previously reacted to a parasitic preventative, then I would stick with what I know works well, and doesn't have side effects for my dog.

Thanks @Beanwood, I looked it up and saw that the FDA had just passed it but also noticed the warning on seizures, which Maisy has never had luckily. The vet said that it was more palatable and more effective (which I instantly thought meant cheaper for them or they had lost the Nexgard contract, slightly cynical I know). I can't find reviews from people who have actually used it on their dogs.

She is not due to have it for another month so I will think about it.

That’s good to know. I have Tatze on Nexgard too, I wonder if she will be changed?

Is Credelio also given monthly?
.
Yes, monthly like Nexgard. Not sure if Nexgard has been stopped though, just that my vet has changed it. They say it is more effective and more palatable but it might just be that they have a better deal from their supplier. You might still get Nexgard.

Did your vet not say why they had change it to Credelio? Could you not ring them up and ask them.

They said because it is more effective and more palatable.
It was a devil to disguise so that Maisy would eat it, she would lick off the nice stuff and leave it in her dish.
So I can believe that it is more palatable, can't be sure about the effectiveness though.
