Poppy has a cut pad. Noticed just now she has a pronounced limp. On checking, the wound seems clean and no blood. I've applied some antiseptic. Is this a vet job or a just keep her quiet job would you guess?

Well spotted. I've actually photographed the wrong paw! Now that she's settled down I've been able to have a better look and it's got a cut but I don't think that's the problem as it's not deep or bleeding/has been bleeding. I'm now thinking she must have twisted he paw or bruised it as she has a pronounced limp and is reluctant for me to touch her paw. I'll just keep an eye on it for the time being and see what she's like in the morning. No sign of thorns, punctures or anything else.

Sorry - false alarm.

Snowie once dislocated his paw. Racing wildly with his dog friend, caught his foot on a tree root, took a tumble, screamed, and his paw hung limp. While I was feeling it trying to work out what was wrong, I heard a click and he could stand up. I supported him by holding his harness while we walked to the car—took an hour through the forest, over rocks and logs. He limped a bit. When I told the vet, she said dogs can roll over their paws like we roll over our ankles and can sprain their paws/ankles. So perhaps that is what Poppy did? Hope she feels better soon.

Well I've just taken her for her afternoon walk. You wouldn't think there was anything wrong! This morning she was dropping her shoulder and limping badly. I think it must be a minor twist as it was still a bit sensitive when I cleaned her paws after the walk but apart from that pretty much normal.

I'll just keep an eye on things. Sorry to trouble everyone.

I've adjusted the title to reflect reality. Whatever was causing the (actually really pronounced) limp yesterday has completely gone today as evidenced by her heroic efforts to keep pace with her new pals - two GSPs! Her legs were going in a blur and they just loped along. So she's had an excellent cardio workout this morning and no limp - oh, and a couple of much needed telling offs by the GSPs.

Good normal service has been resumed!

Cass had a strange intermittent limp about 3-5 weeks ago. I couldn't see anything wrong but there was much licking of her left fore lower leg. I was just on the verge of taking her to be checked out when it completely disappeared! I can only assume she'd sprained it somehow.

Then last night she settled down after her outing but when she got up after 2 hours she was hobbling along on 3 legs!! She didn't seem at all perturbed though and apart from a little stiffness first thing she's been right as rain this morning!

She did run pretty fast up and down a steep hill yesterday so maybe she was using some different muscles -- who knows!
