Dare we hope ?

I laugh when I remember Quinn (who honestly, I feel was basically an angel compared to some of these forum pup sharks) because she tortured my then 10 year old step daughter, ripping her clothes, hanging off her nightgowns, running after her to launch at her when possible, stealing her toys. She would stay in her room with the door shut and ask me to pick the puppy up so she could come out. It didn't last long, and she stopped biting quite early but I think kids definitely get the brunt of the nipping, if there are kids around to bite! She wasn't nearly as bad with us...OH got nothing, I lost slightly more pants and shirt sleeves.

@kateincornwall I keep wondering how Reuben is getting on? I hope he is behaving. I am feeling more in control with Betty... finally... thanks to the advice of others to stuff a toy in her mouth and play with her when she gets in a nipping mood.

Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for your advice on here... one perfect fit harness purchased and I love it. I went for M-XS-M in the end for any others looking for a harness for a 3 month old! It fits snug on tightest settings so plenty of growing room.
Puppy training classes start in the new year! Update pic of Betty attached x

Aww, look at Betty , little love ! I was only thinking of you @lilliput and wondering how things are going ! Reuben is coming along nicely , he has been much more calm ( hesitate to use this word !) since he began his off lead walks a couple of weeks ago . His biting isn't as bad now either , still doing it but nowhere near as bad thank goodness ! Little Betty looks so sweet , bless her x

Lovely to hear your news @lilliput , I’ve been wondering how you and Betty have been getting on! The harness sounds perfect, I found it made quite a difference to our walks and heel training just in terms of relieving the stress of pulling on a flat neck collar. And training in the new year, how exciting! Do keep us posted on how you find it all. Betty looks utterly gorgeous at 3 months, what a super girl x

Ahhh thank you both. Glad Reuben is doing so well and the biting is better. And yes the harness has made so much difference and we have started our heel training. We are going on proper walks now although we don't get very far in 15 mins - her nose being the issue!!! Do you stick to the 5 mins for every month of age rule? I tend to do a couple of 15 mins a day (one off lead, one on lead) because I feel she needs the stimulation (helps to reduce the biting definitely) but we really don't get very far - sometimes only 50 metres! I will keep you all posted... lovely to share our experiences with you all x

I don't stick rigidly to the 6 mins rule , its only a guide really for those who would drag their pups for miles when they are young ! Reuben is now almost 16 weeks old , and we have either one 20ish minute or 2 x 15 minute walks , sometimes a little longer , these are both off lead and we do little training exercises incorporated in the walks . We have just started lead work , finding it challenging !

Hi everyone, Happy New Year to you all! Any tips on training Betty to greet visitors nicely? A friend (who has met Betty half a dozen times) popped in today and Betty was being a pickle - jumping up then biting her hands and clothes almost instantly (after a quick excited wee on the floor!) - wanting to engage play I am sure but I am nervous to have anyone round who is not confident with dogs. Tomorrow a friend is popping in with her 3 children (oldest is 7) and I am concerned! I think I will pop her on the lead so that I am in control. HELP! She is being better with us although clearly teething now. Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2019 x

Happy New Year to you too ! I also have this issue with Reuben , he gets so excited when my grandson comes over , jumping about and generally being a lunatic . He does eventually calm down, but for those not used to a crazed puppy , I put his lead on x

It might be worth looking at the Relaxation Protocol which is on here somewhere. It wouldn't get instant results, like in time for tomorrow :) but I think in time it's a really good thing. If I ever have another puppy I think it's something I would start quite young. Or there's boundary games where you teach them to settle in a certain place.

I remember Cassie being like that with visitors too when she was small!

Happy New Year to you! If you have a pen or a crate, I would pop her in there with a stuffed Kong. Make it a complete non-event and try to convince your visitors that she's boring. The more excited they are, the more exciting visitors will be to her, so try to make it a lesson in "people coming round are boring". If at all possible with all the children!

Thank you @Selina27 - I have found it - 18 pages... bit of bedtime reading! It is a full time job this puppy training!

That’s the ticket - it’s a series of tasks so you don’t tackle it all in one go (thank goodness!) and the earlier ones are easier. See how you get on - I found it made so much more difference to settling than I expected, and we haven’t finished it (yet!). You do need more space as you progress...:)
