Got some numbers finally … Kelowna lost 5 homes. West Kelowna has lost 50 so far, but they are still going through neighbourhoodsThat would be so hard. I guess they can at least know they did what they could. But it’s so sad. There will be lots of structures lost in and around Kelowna, unfortunately. And I also feel for the farmers and ranchers with horses and cattle who are in the midst of all this. We saw that here, too. It’s one thing for a household to evacuate with pets, but what if you had a dozen horses? Or a hundred cattle? You can’t get them loaded on trailers very quickly.![]()
I haven’t heard of any farm animals being left behind, except some pigs who refused to get in the trucks, so I hope that means most have made it to a safe place! I know I saw a lot of Facebook posts of people who had trailers hitched and ready to go help anyone at a moments notice who needed help getting animals out
Cattle do roam free up in Bear Creek but quite higher than the neighbourhoods so I hope they managed to stay safe. It’s quite an expansive area up there. I spend many days off exploring those dirt roads, scared to see how much is damaged though
