When we got Vanilla it was easy as next door used to come in and help every few hours. She had a baby just before xmas, so she was out of the question. The other daughter of a friend who helped once Vanilla was older, is also unable to help during the week on a consistent basis. She is at Uni and she is now discovering other things…
So that let us to having to look for a new dog sitter. That is hard finding someone you think you could trust as you red their profile on the web. Even asking people who have used someone in the past is proving difficult, especially as a lot of people leave their dog outside.
Anyhow we spoke to a few over the last few days and saw one lady yesterday. She only lives about 5min away and does not work. She could commit to a visit at 11am to fall in line with Honey’s feeding schedule, so that was a good thing.
When she came for a ‘Meet & Greet’ I took my cue from Vanilla. I know this sounds weird, but I have found Vanilla is pretty good in spotting people she does not like. Anyhow that went well and the way the person interacted with them was good. We had a chat got to know each other, asked her how she would do things and explained how we train them and what we want her to do whilst she is here ie: Feeding Honey, leave a Kong when she leaves, use our cues, don’t let them play after Honey has eaten etc.
We are going to try her for the next 4 weeks, but on a week by week trial. She is then going on holiday for 3 weeks, and if all goes well, she will come back.
Now we just have to plug the whole for 3 weeks when she is not here.
