Dummy

I'm no expert but I can say what worked with Cassie!
A bit of a multi pronged approach really - a combination of having taught "Hand Touch" which meant she learnt to push her nose into my hand , and also doing Clicker retrieve, which @edzbird has put on a thread on here.
Plus some 121 gundog training, where I learnt to keep my hands out of sight instead of reaching for the dummy.

First you need to teach a good 'hold', whereby Odin will walk along next to you holding the dummy, and then you teach him to give it to you only when you give him a certain cue (I use 'give'). Practice him walking alongside you while he is holding the dummy, and also him sitting in front of you holding the dummy, to the extent that you can stroke his head and neck and he will keep hold of it. Then, once he has learnt to keep hold of the dummy and give it back to you on your cue rather than dropping it in order for a treat, you can go back to retrieving. When he comes back to you with the dummy, keep your hands behind you and be prepared to take a step back. Don't lean forward and try to take the dummy, stand up straight, then bend down slowly, give the cue, and take the dummy from him. Lots of praise and rewards for holding the dummy and giving it to you on cue. If he 'spits the dummy', then no treat... Good luck, and let us know how you get on!
