Ear infection and burst drum

That sounds so miserable. I can remember the agony of being in a descending plane with blocked sinuses on two different occasions, and not being to equalise. I can imagine how sore it must be for poor Vanilla.

Thanks all.

She will recover, but you can just tell she is not herself. Normally when I get home after being out Vanilla will wait by the door, not today fast a sleep and I entered house and walked upstairs finding her a sleep. Honey on the other hand was lively like anything downstairs...

Strangest part is that she did not scratch or shake her head when she got the infection. Even the Vet thought that was strange, as with this amount she should have been going nuts. I think secretly she is a tough little cookie and just puts up with the pain...now fast a sleep on sofa...

Poor Vanilla. Ear infections seem to escalate quickly sometimes and aren’t easy to deal with. Wispa tends to get them after swimming, which is a great shame because she loves swimming, although she doesn’t have much opportunity to do so now. I hope it all heals quickly and Vanilla soon feels better.

Just reading this now. So sorry. I also have an itchy dog; it really is a challenge. Thankfully he’s never had a bad ear problem. I clean his ears at least once a day with a towel (after drying him after a swim)—good for removing dirt and dust, there’s always brown stuff on the towel. Every now and then I do a thorough clean of the outer ear with an earbud and extra cotton wool, getting into all the grooves.

Have you ever gone the holistic vet route? Perhaps get advice on diet for an itchy dog? We feed Snowie raw meat and raw bones—we did this on advice from the breeder when I told her he was itchy. He’s still itchy, but at least manageable, no raw or bald spots. And no medication, except every now and then (usually when the seasons change) when we give him prednisone for a couple of days to give him relief.

I really feel for you. It’s distressing seeing our dogs miserable. Wishing you all a very speedy recovery.
