Easy clean, comfortable bed

Molly has, so far had about 4 beds, none of them cheap and she's only just coming up to 3

I've tried to get good comfy beds but what I keep failing to find is a bed that is easily washed. The bed she has at present is lovely, deep, warm and clearly comfortable BUT, it's the very devil to clean. It has zips that have to be unzipped - obviously - and the insides, thick spongy stuff, can't remember the name, has to be removed. This takes about half an hour and I don't even want to think about the effort and time involved in getting it back on again.

Has anyone got an easily dismantled bed with linings that can be removed without need for counselling afterwards and can be washed, dried and replaced in a few hours?

I need to keep Molly's bed as clean as possible because of her allergies. We're coming into spring here and as feared, Molly is starting to scratch.

For an itchy dog, you’ll probably want a cool bed. Memory foam gets very hot. So does waterproof materials. The best bed we’ve had for Snowie—the one he actually sleeps on—is a large cushion filled with small balls of foam. Covered in a cotton inner. And the outer cover is very thick cotton. My mom made them (good with running things up on the sewing machine!). The inner foam came from a cushion he’d ripped by digging it; so we reused that foam. Very easy to wash the outer cover. He’s still itchy. But I think this bed with the cotton covers is the most comfortable he’s had. And definitely the cheapest!!!

Very easy to wash the outer cover in the washing machine.

Thanks, they all look far easier than Molly's bed. Just to explain, I am disabled by rheumatoid disease, so hands are painful most of the time, hence the need for easily removed and replaced covers.

Yes @M.F. you are right, a cool bed is ideal - wish I had access to your mom and her sewing machine, bless her

You've certainly given me ideas, help from MLF, as usual x

Have you ever thought about using a raised bed? No cushions and it won't get too warm I do not have one but my brother does and he swears by it. He just washes the fleece cover. He had a bad motor bike accident and crushed his fist so he also has restricted movement. Hunter lies on it when we visit. Just an idea!

The HiK9 beds are really well made, but so pricey! I have the Coolaroo ones which aren't quite as well made, but I can get them a lot more easily here - and last year I found them on offer and bought four for the price of one HiK9! :D
