Echo - Guide Dog

We had a magical day yesterday. We met Echo and his owner (who is really lovely and absolutely adores him). Photos with her permission.

He knew us for sure and bounced all over us both. We had coffee, she put biscuits on the coffee table and Echo totally ignored them (*proud*). Lots and lots of cuddles, strokes and belly rubs ensued. Then a long chat. His work is 100% perfect. She’s a real dog person and was telling me about all the dogs she’s had before she lost her sight - plus her sister‘s dog and all Echo‘s doggy friends.

We then went for a long walk along a super, woody, disused rail track, which their yard has a gate straight on to, then on to a huge park where he had a free run. He was the same gallopy, gorgeous boy who I so wanted to be mine. But seeing him Guide her and listening about the freedom he gives her made me realise he‘s doing what he was born for - and that was not to be my next pet dog!

He’s the same handsome, amazing boy and his owner and her husband very much want us in his life. We feel privileged to be so.

My heart was bursting with pride and joy. We didn’t know he’d be our last GD pup, and I’m sure that’s a good thing - all those ‘lasts’ would have been hard to bear.
