ED Progression

I am so sorry David. Poor Lady. Hopefully the meds and rest will settle things down. She's bound to start feeling much better on the metacam, and you'll have a job keeping her quiet... better start thinking about mind games, frozen kongs etc to keep her busy. Visits to the pub, to the pet store, etc, any place where there is stuff to look at and sniff, but not too much walking involved?

2nd day on Metacam and she's already much more active. Ran to the garden gate this morning and had a sit down strike when I said it was time to go home. She's in the garden at the moment doing hunt the kibble.

Also been in the garden with me supervising putting new windows in the garden shed!

Early days though.

Well the SBD has been on Metacam for just over week now and she seems to tolerate it just fine and seems to be much easier in her movements. The vet said it didn't matter what time of the day I gave her the dose at it gave a full 24 hours of relief so I tried morning to start with then switched to evening to see if there was any difference. Mainly because her main walk for the day is in the morning before breakfast so she was only getting the residual benefit from the day before dose. She's actually on a short walk regime for the next few weeks.

What I have noticed about the evening dose routine is that the SBD has become a "puppy" nightmare again. Insisting on wanting a game at 9 o'clock at night and generally not settling as she usually does. Do you think it's the Metacam? I mean it could be she just feels so good she wants to be up and doing stuff. Or is Metacam a bit like "speed"?

Any useful experience gratefully received! :tail::pull::dug::facepalm:

Hi David , well ,good to know that Lady is feeling much brighter ! Nelly was on Met for a while, for her knees , our Vet said it gave dogs the " Feel good Factor " ! I reckon its a bit of both with Lady , the Met and then the wonderful effects re being pain free ! Its one of those drugs that , when it works well, my Lord it does work well !

I'm so pleased that the Metacam is proving effective for Lady. My last boy was 13 when he started it and while I don't remember him becoming skittish, it did transform his life from being in such pain that I thought he was at the end of his life to being able to go for 20 minute walks/ambles twice a day and being normally waggy/ content. With Lady being so much younger perhaps the effect is even more rejuvenating.

Got an appointment for a review with our vet next Friday. Lady is back on normal walks now after a period of reduced exercise. I think she's doing ok. How do I know I hear you ask. Well yesterday we were walking a field margin and we put up a covey of grey partridge. The SBD then flushed a straggler that decided to run along the ground rather than fly. Lady put in a huge burst of speed the like of which I haven't seen for ages and I though if it doesn't take to the air we are going to have an early partridge!

Metacam obviously doing it's job then! :pull:
