Emergency Vet for Reuben

My poor little lamb, has spent all afternoon at the emergency Vets . We went out for an hour , on return we saw the remnants of a bulb of garlic . I rang the Vet immediately and we took him in , he had an injection to make him sick , the results showed a lot of garlic , so then a wait for the vomiting to stop , and charcoal given plus bloods taken . They fortunately have a diagnostic machine , and after a long wait , all came back normal . Then a long wait as his blood pressure dropped , thankfully finally stabilising . We have been allowed to bring him home , with charcoal to give every few hours , through the night as well , and then more bloods on Monday as they said it can take a few days for the blood to show problems , that the red blood count drops , so he isn't out of the woods, but the Vet is cautiously optimistic . They were wonderful with him , saying thank goodness he is a big lad , he wagged his tail throughout , which makes me cry , I feel like absolute shit for him getting the garlic in the first place , what a bloody idiot to think he couldn't reach it . So please , send positive vibes to our puppy , he is sleeping now and I will stay up with him , Vet on speed dial and we must ring if he becomes lethargic or wont eat , oh God , please let him be alright x

Oh my goodness, poor baby!!

Honestly Kate please don’t beat yourself up - this has happened to us numerous times, every time I Think he can’t reach something (6 mince pies 🙄)

Big hugs to you and Reuben of course!

NO! Oh poor Reuben and poor you. I'm sure all will be well, but I can imagine how you are fretting. Give yourself a bit cuddle as well as him, and don't call yourself an idiot because it is not humanly possible to protect them from everything. Lots of Lambie-power and good thoughts heading Reuben's way from Wales.

Bloomin' heck Reuben!
Scary indeed.
You absolutely have done the right ting and vet wouldn't have let him home if they thought him still at risk.
Silly boy.
I sincerely hope you are ALL okay xxxx

Oh Kate, what a horrible thing to happen to you all. As Leanne says, we have all been there - it only takes a second for them to grab stuff and when they are still growing like puppy Reuben it is astonishing what they can reach all of a sudden. Sending hugs, I'm sure he will be fine, the vets wouldn't have sent him home if they thought he was at significant risk. XX

So sorry to hear this Kate. You’ve done the right thing going to the emergency vet, as has been said they wouldn’t let him come home if there was a big risk. Good luck with the charcoal, if it’s the same as I gave Ripple it will be everywhere.
Really feel for you, it’s so horrible when this sort of thing happens .

Oh Reuben!!!
It really isn't your fault Kate. They do these stupid things and you reacted in just the right way. It sounds as if he got most of it out anyway. Don't be so hard on yourself. We all know how you feel though.

Silly lad! It does sound as if you got him to the vets in good time for the induced vomiting. He should make a full recovery, we'll keep everything crossed anyway x

You caught it and that’s the main thing!! Hope he’s ok and don’t beat yourself up...it accomplishes nothing and these guys will eat just anything won’t they! Keep us posted x

@kateincornwall I’m so sorry, just catching up - poor you and little Reuben, it’s only a good sign that he was wagging all the way through the vet visit and you’ve done absolutely the right things for him. Please don’t beat yourself up , you know from our recent experience that it only take a second for these things to happen and you are such good puppy parents - it’s really not your fault. You were really quick to act and have done everything you can. Sending massive positive vibes to you all, all the signs are good and hopefully that’ll continue through the night. Do keep us posted - lots of hugs in the meantime xxxxx
