Once a month we are away for a couple of nights so first, Lady, and then, Poppy are in a nearby lovely kennels from Saturday to Tuesday afternoon. They loved Lady at the kennels and they all burst into tears when she went. They had looked after her for 11 years and she liked going there as evidenced by much wagginess and pulling to go in. Here we are again with our new girl, Poppy. Over the past few months she has also settled nicely into the routine. When I get her food and toys assembled she's standing at the front door waiting to go. Maybe a little hint of hesitation getting into the back of the car, but then another puller, like Lady, into the kennels and much wagging and greeting and (shock horror!) putting her paws on shoulders and licking faces. Yesterday she looked back at me just the once but when I gave her the "get on" signal she was off without a second thought.
Today is packing, watering pots and checking all the paperwork and equipment for the trip. There's a huge gap. Where is our girl this morning helping in the garden, lying at my feet while I pack the boxes for the trip, and in fact just being next to me while I type this?
Empty nest but just until Tuesday afternoon. Then the fun starts all over again!
