Family visit....very nervous

The trouble is, 10 minutes of crackerdog is perfectly fine with any of us, but with dog fearing people it would be a nightmare - all that shrieking and jumping (not Maxx, the people).

If Steve really is willing to sit it all out with Maxx then that should be fine. Maxx gets a go at meeting, but has an escape option with his bezzy. Maybe he will be able to get further, gentle re-introductions after and hour or so, maybe he won't, but with the option of escape with daddy it might be a good training opportunity for him.

I hope it all goes well for you, Steve and Maxx. I agree that if he's willing to take Maxx and get out of Dodge if the situation warrants it, that takes a lot of pressure off.

I'm a big anti-social chicken and generally just avoid situations where I think my dog won't be welcome. But I can do that because I don't have an extended family and the family I do have (basically just my dad) knows that if Emily comes, the dog is coming too.

However, I don't think that's the best way to deal with it and think the way you are doing it is the best for everyone. You may get a lovely surprise and the visit go much better than the scenarios running through your head. 🤞

I hope everything goes well for you. I completely get where you are coming from as my sister is very wary of Harley and says her son is, but when she’s not around he runs around the garden with Harley!

Reckon you’ve got it covered @Lab_adore . I’d avoid unless confident but entirely see this isn’t always an option (plus is probably more about me being antisocial :hmm:) so as long as you’ve got treats galore, you’ve scoped your area beforehand, had a good walk and Steve is ready to take Maxx off the moment he needs it (or before), reckon you’ll be okay. Nice forward planning x

Home again and it went very well. It was just so lovely to see my family for the first time in 8 months

Maxx was SO much better than my fevered over-imagination worried about. Yes he jumped a little bit but it was very half-hearted and he mouthed a few arms and he barked a few times but mostly he sat or lay quietly in between Steve and I or ran around the garden. We had to have him on lead as there was food everywhere but he didn't seem to mind. We were blessed with the most gorgeous winter weather - sunny and 20 degrees, even up in the mountains. So this meant we spent the whole day outside and that Maxx could be with the hoomans. If we had been inside and he outside it would have been a whole other kettle of fish.

He entertained everyone with his repertoire of tricks and a few mad zoomie sessions around the yard. My sister found a huge rubber snake whilst out walking (yes after almost having a heart attack because it looks very real) and Maxx just loved it. He ran around the yard chucking it up in the air, making everyone laugh.

He didn't sleep all day and now the poor petal is cuddled up to OH on the couch watching the footy and snoozing. Life is good :inlove:
