Maxx is fascinated (almost obsessed) with rubbish trucks. Today I'm working in our dining room that has a balcony that looks over the street and the glass sliding doors are open and the screen door closed. Friday is rubbish day. Maxx was sound asleep when the rubbish truck arrived and within seconds he was up from lying on the kitchen tiles, trotted in here and looked at me to be let out on the balcony. He sat and stared quietly at it, moving position so he could watch it as it made its way down and then up the street (we live in a cul-de-sac). He does this every week and sometimes if another type of truck arrives in the street he also needs to go and watch it. If he hears one and the door isn't open he will bark a few times until he is either let out onto the balcony or onto the back deck where he can watch them through the back gate (which also looks down onto the street)

When we visited him at the breeders, she kept them in the garage that was very close to the street. We figure he heard the rubbish trucks then and the sound has stuck in his mind.

What fascinates your pooch?

That’s so sweet, I love the fact that he switches position so he can keep watching.

I can’t think of anything that Plum does with the same intensity. Sometimes she’ll rest her head on the back sofa cushions so she can look out the window and watch the world go by, but she’s not focusing on anything specific.

That's so cute that Maxx gets such entertainment on garbage days. :)

I wouldn't say that Carbon is fascinated by them, but your story reminded me how much he LOVES delivery trucks. Last summer during one of our morning walks, a gentleman was unloading one of the many beer delivery trucks that make the morning run in our part of town. Carbon went up to him and he gave Carbon a pat and pulled a cookie out of his pocket for him.

That was the ONLY time any such thing happened, but that doesn't matter to Carbon at all as based on one experience, he's now got to check out EVERY delivery truck we come across in the morning JUST IN CASE. Mostly the delivery people just look bemused as to why a dog is so interested in a load of beer bottles. The one time we ran into the bakery van offloading, it was a real catastrophe, though. Carbon thought he'd encountered nirvana on four wheels.

Big fat pigeons. He’ll sit and gaze for minutes at them if he can’t reach them. If he can, he bounces towards them and gets increasingly hesitant as he realised he might reach them and not know what to do. And my hand if I make it into a beak and quack at him (haven’t done this for a while, he might have got over it by now :))
