Favourite quotes

I want to make some memes for my shelter photography, like this one:

Hit me with your favourite dog quotes, and you get extra bonus points if they're applicable to giving a shelter dog a home.

I want to avoid "adopt don't shop" themes because I think that's nonsense (firstly because ethical breeding is commendable and secondly, people "shop" from shelter organisations, too), but anything along the lines of giving these dogs a future etc.

“Dogs can speak, but only to those who know how to listen”

“Love at first bark”

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself”

“Life is better with a dog”

I also like “as soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen” although not strictly dog related!

This isn't a good one for what you want, but my favourite is a song lyric:

Religion is the smile on a dog

As a non-religious person who nonetheless has my own ideas of where we go and what it all means, this quote says it all about where I find my own 'religion' or beliefs about what is important: the smile on a dog. Of course Edie Brickell may have had something entirely different in mind! 😏

When my first Rottie Duncan died, I had this engraved on the outside of a ring, with his name and life dates on the inside.

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring- it was peace.
Milan Kundera.

It's impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of one or more puppies.

Puppies are nature's remedy for feeling unloved....plus numerous other ailments of life.
