It's been a busy few days, to say the least, but this evening we have a little lull before an earlyish start tomorrow, so I can give you a short update.
We arrived in Milan, and spent the night there, going to visit the Duomo (Cathedral) which was stunning.20240902_093356.jpg20240902_100945.jpgAfter lunch we boarded the train to Mestre, near Venice, and after checking into the hotel we caught another train to make the short hop to Venice, arriving over the lagoon. Evening meal there, then back to the hotel and a full day in Venice the next day. Back again, having been out for a meal with the rest of the group.(Only six of us on this trip, including the guide, and they're all absolutely lovely).
Following our two night stay near Venice, we caught a train to Villach, in Austria, another beautiful historic city, where we had a few hours to have lunch and do some exploring 20240904_153053.jpg20240904_141056.jpgThen it was back onto another train to bring us here to Zagreb, for a stay of three nights. Yesterday we caught a bus out to Varazdin, a beautiful Baroque city that was once the capital of Croatia. This is a small, beautiful city, and incredibly clean, putting our UK cities to shame, - there wasn't a scrap of litter in sight!Wanted to post some more photos there, but it won't let me! It is pretty tiring, but there are breaks when we have free time and we can use these for more exploring, sensibly taking a nap, shopping, or doing whatever suits us, so there are opportunities to rest, which is what I'm doing now (sort of!) Which brings us up to date here in Zagreb, yet another beautiful city. Our guide gave us an orientation tour thismorning, along with some interesting historical information, leaving the afternoon free for us to have lunch, wander at will, sit in cafés watching the World go by, or go back to the hotel for a snooze. Which brings me up to date! Now it's time for an earlyish night in order to be ready to leave our hotel at 7.30 and make our way to Belgrade, in Serbia.
Our guide has posted the instructions for the day right by the lift, where no- one could possibly miss it, not even the hotel guests who aren't on the tour. :giggl: I'm looking forward to tomorrow's adventures.......

We spent last night in Belgrade and were given a brief tour by way of an introduction, then had free time to explore and have lunch. It's a fascinating city, constantly caught between warring factions due to its strategic position at the point where the rivers Sava and Danube meet. You will no doubt notice that the photo I took of this point has sneakily included a Chocolate Labrador on the left! :giggl: 20240908_103725.jpgwhich now I look at it shows more Labrador than meeting of two rivers, so here's what I was supposed to be looking at.20240908_104119.jpgThere are some beautiful buildings in Belgrade, including the hotel where two of our group (no prizes for guessing who one of them was!) stopped for a very nice and reasonably priced lunch.20240908_115610.jpg20240908_123410.jpg20240908_131651.jpgSo now, suitably fortified, we're on a train from Belgrade to Mokra Gora.
On a different note, I had a message today from the people who are looking after Joy. Apparently she's running out of food!

Oops! Internet interruption. I carefully measured out enough food to last her until I come back, and left written instructions as to how much she should have. This tends to suggest that she's been on double portions!:facepalm:
Although she is of course a very GoodGirlJoy, she can be just a bit cheeky once she's feeling at home, and I suspect she's been giving them this look20240316_092044.jpgTime for a Die-et perhaps, when I get home!
